Sighing quietly, she headed toward the piping to get the supplies she needed to finish the modification for the sinks. As Jordi filled her cart, she pondered how she could support the weight of the sinks to attach them to the wall. Planning to stack boxes and lumber at the right height, she headed to the cash registers.

“Hi, Jordi.”

Turning to spot Ellen, Jordi smiled and greeted the employee. “Hi, Ellen.”

“Hi. Mr. James left something for you here at the desk.” She walked around the desk and pulled out a fully assembled device. “I’m supposed to have a stockman put this in your truck for you. Here are the directions.”

“I’m afraid that’s not in my budget,” Jordi said, without raising her hand to accept the booklet.

“It’s already paid for and ready to go. It’s a support for someone working alone.” Ellen spotted the piping in Jordi’s cart. “If you have heavy sinks to go with those pipes, you can adjust it to whatever height you need while you make the connections or allow the adhesive to cure.”

“That’s amazing. It’s like having an extra pair of hands,” Jordi said, reaching out for the booklet.

“Mr. James said to tell you he appreciated you being willing to test this out for the store.”

“Test it out for the store? Oh, yes. Of course. I’m glad to give it a practice drive,” Jordi said, thinking on her feet.

“You check out and I’ll call an employee to help you get this loaded,” Ellen said, walking back to the desk to lift the phone.

“Thanks, Ellen.”

Can I accept this? It has to cost too much.

Jordi purchased everything in her cart, debating the entire time whether she should accept the gift or not. I could just drive away. I could have forgotten. He’ll never believe that.

Her phone buzzed in her back pocket as she walked out to the truck. Juggling her keys and pushing the cart, Jordi found a text message.

Let me take care of you, Little girl.

She stared at the screen before shoving it back in her pocket. Jordi looked around to see if there were cameras in the parking lot and found several security ones. Is he watching me?

Quickly, she loaded all her supplies into the truck and jumped into the driver’s seat. Feeling the phone in her back pocket, she pulled it out to avoid cracking the screen and found a new message.

Ellen just messaged me that you looked worried. I’m not watching you, Sunshine. This is a win-win. You get some help stabilizing things and I get to find out if this gadget actually works.

A sigh of relief escaped from her mouth. She’d been totally ready to decide that Callen was a stalker even after last night. Jordi knew she needed some help. Her assistant had already called in for today and she really wanted to get those sinks in and test the fix Callen had suggested.

Before she could change her mind, Jordi texted back a relief emoji and her thanks.

Callen responded with a sun emoji.

Sunshine.

Grinning now, Jordi drove up to the pick-up zone and met a handsome employee who lifted the heavy device up easily into the back of her truck.

“Mr. James says be careful getting this out. Maybe back up to the store front to lower it down on the sidewalk. Then you can just wheel it inside.”

“Thanks. That’s a good idea.”

When she arrived back at the shop and had the new machine inside, Jordi flopped down on a box to read the directions. Fiddling with it as she learned how to use the adjustable support, Jordi got excited. It didn’t take long to devour the pamphlet.

Five hours later, she looked at the line of sinks spaced perfectly apart and the flourish of metal piping that added a unique flair. They were going to love it. She’d even coated the metal with a special protectant to make sure it didn’t tarnish or spot. Part of her hated to leave it here. Jordi settled for taking a picture and started to clean up.

She almost had everything organized to work on the next item on her list when her phone rang. “Hello?”

“Hello, Sunshine. Did it work?”

“Hold on. Let me show you.” Jordi lowered the phone to text him a picture of the finished project and one of her smiling.

She could hear his answers as he looked at the screen. “Nice! There’s my sweet Little girl.”

“Thank you again. That makes a world of difference.”

“You are welcome. Want to come to Daddy’s house for dinner tonight? You could bring Norwood and stay the night?” he suggested.

“Oh!” She paused a couple of seconds before adding, “Will I sleep with you?”

“I’d love to hold you in my arms all night, or you can sleep in your crib.”

“I have a crib?”

“You do. I’ll pick you and Norwood up at six.”

“I think I’d rather drive to you. What’s the address?” she requested.
