I ran my eyes over his face. He waited patiently for my answer—like a wolf about to attack a poor little bunny. And I was the bunny.
“I want dinner tonight,” I told him.
He grinned, and it melted my fucking soul. That fucking smile should be illegal. “Deal, darlin’.” He leaned down and brushed his lips with mine. “See you tonight. Be ready by six.”
With that, he strode away as if he hadn’t just yanked me into his den of vipers.
This time, I put a little more effort into my outfit, allowing Lacie to dress me up. She didn’t agree with any of this anymore. In fact, Lacie spent most of our time together trying to get me to change my mind, but something in my gut told me that Damien wasn’t lying.
If he had to chase what he wanted, I wasn’t going to like what he was going to do when he finally caught me.
I ran my hands over the little black dress I was wearing. I refused to wear heels, wanting to keep my ankles intact and not broken, so I had a pair of rose-gold flats on my feet to match the clutch that Lacie was forcing me to trade my wallet for.
My hair was in loose curls around my shoulders, but my face was still free of make-up except some mascara to make my eyes pop—Lacie’s words. Make-up made me break out, and after a long argument with Lacie about doing more, I finally won. I wasn’t trying to get rid of a zillion pimples on my face come tomorrow.
I stepped out of my dorm building, feeling extremely nervous. Damien was leaning against his car. His eyes locked on me the moment I emerged out of the door. Without a single glance at the girls fawning around him, he strode towards me, a hungry, predatory look in his eyes.
“You look fucking amazing,” he breathed, running his eyes over me.
A blush stained my cheeks. “Thought I should put more effort this time since I kind of demanded you take me to dinner.”
He grinned and wrapped an arm around my waist, tugging my body against his. I could feel just how affected he was by my dress when his cock pressed against my quivering belly. I sucked in a sharp breath of air.
“If I get to see you in a tiny ass dress like this every time you demand dinner, demand dinner whenever the fuck you want to.”
He dropped a kiss to my forehead before he opened the passenger door for me. I settled into his plush, leather seat. By the time he got in, I had my seatbelt strapped on. I was nervous for this date, but somehow, I knew Damien wouldn’t hurt me.
Not physically anyway.
He might still wreck my fucking soul.
I laughed when Damien tried feeding me another bite of the gooey, chocolate cake we had ordered for dessert. I was completely stuffed. He’d taken me to a nice restaurant—a place I felt completely out of my element in. Yet, he’d made me feel right at home and very comfortable within seconds of us sitting down. The world ceased to exist with him.
And he was being so sweet and kind. He’d made me laugh so much during this dinner as he told me stories of him and his cousin and all of the wild things they got into as kids together. I’d learned through his stories that Damien and his cousin Miles had a bond that was unbreakable.
“I cannot eat another piece of cake,” I giggled, turning my face away.
He smirked and forked the last bite of cake into his mouth. I got all tingly inside as I imagined those lips on my body—hell, even on my own lips. I knew he would taste like chocolate and the coffee he’d been nursing all evening.
A delectable combination with an irresistible man.
“You about ready to get out of here?” Damien asked me.
I ran my eyes over him. He growled softly and stood, holding out his hand to me, taking my look as an answer. Blushing, I placed my hand in his. He dropped a wad of bills on the table that I was certain more than covered the bill before he led me from the restaurant, my hand clasped tightly in his.
I opened my mouth to thank him for a truly amazing night when something whizzed right past my ear.
“Fuck!” Damien roared, yanking me to the ground with him. His body covered mine. Asphalt dug into my skin. My heart hammered against my chest. I didn’t even have time to scream in fear or from the pain of the asphalt rubbing my skin.
I watched as Damien yanked out his own gun. People were screaming. Was I screaming now? I couldn’t be sure. I could barely hear anything past the rushing of blood in my ears.
