Thank goodness for small miracles.

With a little more care, I glance around the room for a second time. There’s a football jersey thrown over the back of a chair shoved up against the desk with a couple Communications books piled on top of it. I have the sneaking suspicion from the clues I’ve been able to piece together that I crashed in Asher’s room. I should probably make a hasty exit before he returns. The last thing we need is any awkward morning-after convos. Especially since I can’t remember what exactly happened.

Just as I throw off the thick comforter, the bedroom door opens and Asher strolls in, wearing a black tank top and loose-fitting athletic shorts. Even though my head continues to throb an insistent beat and it feels like my eyes will roll out of my head any given moment, that’s not enough to stop my gaze from licking over his biceps.

They’re massive. It’s not like I haven’t caught sight of him in T-shirts, but this is something else altogether. I should definitely look away. Except I can’t bring myself to do it.

Even his bulges have bulges.

“Hey, you’re up,” he says, strolling toward the bed.

There’s just a hint of a flush staining his cheeks.

I don’t realize he’s carrying a small brown paper bag until he sets it on the nightstand and holds out a tall to-go drink container for me to take. As soon as I wrap my fingers around the cup, the scent of freshly roasted coffee permeates the air and hits my nostrils. I can’t help but close my eyes and inhale the delectable aroma.

Sweet baby Jesus, that smells amazing. Even hung over, I’ll take coffee every single time. If anything has the possibility of jumpstarting my brain cells, it’s caffeine.

When my eyelashes flutter open again, I find Asher standing next to the bed, wide gaze pinned to my chest. My brow furrows as I glance down to see what’s captured his attention.

It takes my sluggish brain a moment to remember that I threw off the blankets. If I was studying his arms as if preparing for a crucial test, he’s now examining my breasts with an equal amount of intensity. A little zing of electricity zips through my body as I grab the comforter and tug it upward.

Heat explodes in my cheeks as I glance at him, only to find a grin simmering around the edges of his lips. To cover my embarrassment, I bring the coffee to my mouth and take a tentative sip. The hot liquid slides smoothly down my throat, filling me with warmth. My eyelids drift shut for a second time as I savor the sharp bite of flavor.

Mmm…so good.

“I think I might love you,” I say with a contented sigh.

My eyes pop open as I realize what just escaped from my lips. If it’s possible, my cheeks grow even hotter until it feels like they’re on fire and I’ll burst into flames.

“I didn’t mean it like that,” I whisper in mortification.

His smile grows wider as he winks. “Girls usually say that after I’ve slept with them. Not before.”

Of course that would be his response. The funny thing is that he’s probably not exaggerating. But still…that comment deserves an eye roll. As soon as I give in to the urge, my gaze gets snagged by the small bag off to the side. I’d been so distracted by the sight of his muscles that I almost forgot about it.

With my cup in hand, I gesture to the nightstand. “Anything interesting in there?”

He shifts his stance before nodding toward it. “Why don’t you find out.”

Don’t mind if I do.

I make sure the sheet and blanket are tucked beneath my arms and covering my breasts as I nip the bag and open the flap before stealing a look inside. What I find is a flakey pastry. The scent of warmed chocolate is all it takes to make my mouth water. Without hesitation, my fingers delve inside to carefully wrap around the croissant. As soon as it’s free from the bag, I bring it to my mouth and take a bite.

It’s so light and airy that it practically melts on my tongue.

If I thought the coffee was delicious, this is a thousand times better. Focused on my sweet treat, I lean back against the pillows to enjoy the amazing concoction of butter and flaky dough. Almost magically, my belly settles, and my head seems a lot less throbby. Waking up with a hangover sucks, but breakfast in bed has done wonders for it.

Asher disappears into the private bathroom attached to his room. Once he returns, he holds out his hand. “You should take these.”

I set the coffee on the nightstand and open my palm. Two white pills get dropped in the center of it.

“You drank quite a bit last night. I gave you a couple of Tylenol and had you drink a glass of water before we went to bed.”
