My voice drops, becoming husky. “I can’t wait to get you alone.”
“Just in case you’re wondering,” Kylie says loudly, “I can totally hear you.”
“How much longer is the kid going to be here?” I grumble, shooting her a frown.
Unaffected by my question or disposition, Kylie grins. She’s become so much more vibrant since the transplant and it’s nice to see.
“Didn’t your wife-to-be mention that I’m spending the weekend?” She gives me a look full of innocence before cocking her head and fluttering her lashes.
What?
With narrowed eyes, I glance at Lola for confirmation. When she nods, pressing her lips together to keep them from trembling, I groan.
“We have a lot of wedding planning to do,” Lola says with a chuckle. “Decisions need to be made.”
“Especially for the bachelorette party,” Kylie adds with a smirk.
“We’re having a combined shindig, remember, kid?”
“Nope.” She shakes her head. “Don’t think so.” There’s a pause. “Unless, of course, you’ll let me borrow your brand-new ride to take back to campus for the week.”
“The Lambo?” I ask, voice rising. “Are you out of your damn mind?”
She lifts her shoulders. “Just checking.”
“That’s a hard no.”
“Did I mention the cowboy strip club I found? They wear boots, a big ole hat and a banana hammock.”
With a growl, I bare my teeth.
Lola pops to her feet before wrapping her arms around me. When I continue to glare at Kylie, she nips at my chin until my gaze swings to her. There’s a shit ton of laughter dancing in her dark eyes. “You know she’s just teasing, right? I’ve already agreed to the combined party.”
My muscles loosen as I jerk a brow. “Promise?”
“Yup.” She rises onto the tips of her toes and presses her lips to mine. “You’re the only stripping cowboy I want to see.”
“Can I just wear my Stetson and shitkickers?”
“Now there’s an image I won’t be able to get out of my head,” she says with a chuckle.
“Save a horse and ride a cowboy, am I right?”
Lola bursts out laughing before pressing her lips to mine.
“So…what time is the kid gonna hit the sheets so I can have you all to myself?”
“I can still hear you,” Kylie singsongs from the floor where she’s leafing through a magazine.
“I don’t care,” I say in the same high-pitched tone.
In fact…
Lola gasps when I sweep her into my arms and stalk toward the hallway where our bedroom is located.
“Hey, where are you going?” Kylie calls after us.
“Mommy and Daddy need a little alone time. You’ll have to occupy yourself for about twenty minutes.”
I kick the door to our room closed with my foot before she can respond.
Lola arches a brow when I grin. “Mommy and Daddy, huh?”
“Sure, at some point in the not-so-distant future.” I jerk my head toward the living room. “We’ll practice by taking care of the kid. Lord knows she’s here often enough.”
Her expression grows serious. “You don’t mind, do you?”
“Of course not. Especially if it makes you happy.”
Her lips drift across mine. “I love you, Asher Stevens.”
“I love you, too, soon-to-be Mrs. Stevens.”
She pulls away just enough to search my eyes. “What if I want to keep my last name?”
I shrug. “Then I guess I’ll be banging Lola Diaz for the rest of my life.”
She smirks. “I guess you will.”
With that decided, I carry her to the bed and make sweet love to my soon-to-be-wife.
And yeah…it lasts a little longer than twenty minutes, but who’s counting?
