“Was he okay with it?” she asks curiously. I note she doesn’t have an ounce of fear or hesitation in her tone, almost as if she trusts her son will have her back.

Which he does.

“He said he was cool with it.”

Danica cuts her eyes toward the bathroom, likely to be sure Travis is still there, and reaches over to slide her fingertips across the back of my hand. “I’ll talk with him later tonight and let him know I like you in the kissing way too.”

I look over my shoulder at the bathroom and lean closer to her. “Since we have Travis’s approval and all, think we can do lunch together Monday?” I lower my voice. “I could come to your place. Bring you food and we can spare maybe ten minutes to eat and fifty minutes letting me see how many ways I can make you scream?”

Danica flushes and it makes her prettier. “I’d like that a lot. But what if I want to make you scream instead?”

Jesus, the thought of how she would accomplish that tightens my groin. “I don’t scream,” I say, pointing out my manliness.

She leans across the table and lowers her voice. “No, you don’t. You make a growling noise. But I bet I can make you pant.”

My throat is dry but I refrain from sipping my beer to wet it. Our time is limited before Travis gets back and I want to hear all I can to hold me over until Monday. “And exactly how would you do that?” I rasp.

“With my hot, wet mouth on you.” Her eyes lock hard on mine and once again, a finger trails over my hand. Her voice is like velvet. “I’m going to make you see stars, Camden.”

Her eyes cut past my shoulders and she leans back, withdrawing her hand. “Travis is coming.”

“Fuck,” I say, shifting in my seat because my pants are way too tight. “Thank God he ordered dessert because I’m not going to be able to stand up anytime soon.”

Danica flushes again, but I see pride in her expression. She shoots me a wink and then turns to Travis with a smile as he slides into the booth beside her.

CHAPTER 23

Danica

My doorbell chimes and I suppress a yip of excitement, instead letting the joy at seeing Camden buzz through me like fizzy champagne. I shuffle-run my way to the door, my fuzzy bunny slippers preventing a full-out sprint. I swing it open and drink him in.

For those few seconds, I appreciate his male beauty, followed by the anticipation of what will come out of his mouth. Every single word is important to me.

His gaze makes a luxuriously slow slide down my body, taking in my loose braided pigtails because I was too lazy to blow it out, a ratty Guns N’ Roses T-shirt, gray leggings and lastly… my slippers that have floppy bunny ears, googly eyes and bent whiskers. My feet were cold.

When Camden’s eyes slide back up, they lock on me as his mouth curves into a lecherous smile. “I don’t know that I’ve ever seen you look hotter. After we eat, I’m taking those bunny slippers off and I’m going to wreck you hard.”

I reach up and rest my hand on the doorframe, putting the other on my hip. My voice is raspy, seductive. “Special just for you. And I thought we agreed, I’ll do the wrecking.”

Camden bursts out laughing and steps into me. Wrapping a hand around my back, he hauls me in for a hard kiss before leaving his lips against mine to whisper, “Seriously. You’re beautiful and you can wreck me anytime you want.”

“You’re sweet. And I’ll wreck you as often as you like.”

Then my hand is in his and he’s leading me to my kitchen as I shuffle along behind him so as not to lose a slipper. He sets a grease-stained white paper bag on the table and the smell of cheese steaks wafts from it. Shrugging out of his coat, he tosses it on a chair and moves to my fridge to pull out two bottles of water.

I grab plates, napkins and forks so we can catch any good stuff that falls out. Settling down into adjacent chairs, our legs press against each other. We huddle over sandwiches and fill each other in on our lives from the past few days since we had burgers with Travis.

The Titans had another home game yesterday that Travis and I watched on TV. Camden invited us again as his guests, but I declined since it was a school night. I tell him about the fundraising events I’ve been putting together and I run more ideas by him, using him as a sounding board before I present them to Brienne. We discuss college and I explain about the 529 plan I set up today so I can start putting money in each month for tuition. That wasn’t something Mitch and I had done. Hell, we didn’t even know about it because in our minds, the money would always come in, and we figured we’d have enough to send Travis anywhere he wanted to go. It was stupid and shortsighted, but now that I have a job, I can afford to set some aside each month.
