Did you ever go to the police?

"In two different cities. I was told the same things really. My only choice was to file a restraining order. But was pretty much told they were useless on people who were clearly a little crazy. That, worst case, it might set him off, make him violent. So I never bothered. And there just... weren't any other options for me, you know? Aside from running away when he found me."

There are other options.

There was something about the fierceness in his eyes, the way his jaw was clenched tight, that made me know for sure what he meant, reminded me of how different our lives really were.

"I never... I don't know... I mean. You know... it's funny. I've never really been angry before," I admitted. "Scared. Frustrated. But not angry. I was angry this time," I told him, not able to make eye contact as I admitted the next part. "He never had anything to take away from me before. Not really. But this time... he took away a town I had really gotten attached to. And the people I had begun to like. And, um, you."

There was scribbling.

I had to admit, I was glad to have another moment of not looking at his face while I tried to come to grips with my uncertainty regarding my confession.

We can talk more about how to handle this later. How about you look up at me?

I took a breath, forcing my head to lift, finding his gaze already on me, deep, intense, heated.

Heated.

My whole body warmed in response.

I think I was the one who moved first, my hand reaching out, brushing a finger down a small scar near the lobe of his right ear.

After that, his hand left my wrist, both hands sinking into my hips instead, pulling me out of my chair, settling me on his lap, sealing his lips over mine.

All the tension that had built inside me while giving him my story, something I hadn't ever fully given to anyone before, was a heavy weight off my shoulders, something I hadn't even been aware of carrying around.

Everything felt lighter.

And Cam didn't seem any worse for wear for so effortlessly helping me lift it off.

My thighs tightened around his sides, my feet dangling just a half an inch above the ground, as one of his arms circled my lower back, the other sliding to grab the back of my neck, fingers sifting slightly into my hair.

I was freakishly, acutely aware of everything about him somehow all at once.

The strength of his thighs beneath my butt and legs, the way his fingers dug into my flesh when a throaty whimper escaped me, the burn of his scruff on my face, the woodsy and leather scent he seemed to wear naturally.

All of it surrounded me, embraced me, cushioned me from anything else in the world, in my own head. All there was in the entire universe was him and this moment and the low, gruff growling noise that escaped him when my restless hips shimmied, ground down against his hardness. A jolt of need burst through me, making another shimmy inevitable.

God, it had been so, so long.

And he was so, so perfect.

As if sensing the thought, his fingers curled into my hair, grabbing, pulling. Just to the point of pain, enough to make my lips rip from his as the thrill shot through me, allowing his mouth to move down, tongue tracing the line of my throat, the side of my neck, the lobe of my ear.

Until my entire body felt electric, humming, buzzing with the need for more, for everything, for the release it so desperately craved.

Cam's lips sealed to mine again as he slowly gained his feet, giving me a second to wrap my legs around his waist, arms going round his neck, holding on as he stood, walked blindly through the kitchen, living room, the hallway, then finally into the bedroom.

How he knew where he was beyond me, and how he got there without looking or feeling for anything was plain impressive.

But my mind was on other things when I felt my body tipping backward, the slightly-too-firm mattress meeting my back as Camden suddenly fought against my hold.

He won, of course.

It was like trying to hold onto a brick wall.

A slow, sweet, yet somehow also sexy - seriously, how was he able to be both at the same time - smile pulled at his lips when a sad little grumble escaped me, finding him standing, completely disconnected, looking down at me for a long moment before his hands moved, sinking in at my hips, slowly pulling my leggings down and off, leaving me in the pair of plain tan panties I had picked out before I realized anyone might be seeing them but me.

But the way his eyes went molten, you'd swear they were the sexiest lace panties known to mankind.
