When Barrett moved to hug or possibly kiss her goodbye, I snapped, “Don’t you dare!”

“Jesus, Meyers, knock it off!” Barrett barked, quickly apologizing to the woman as he helped her into the limo. “Sorry about this. I’ll call you later.”

“No he won’t!”

He shut the door and scowled at me. “What’s wrong with you?”

“What’s wrong with me?” I scoffed. “What the ever loving fuck, Barrett? You’re supposed to be with Elle!”

“Rayne, if anything happens to that sample dress you’re going to have to buy it, on top of your actual gown. It’s Parisian silk.”

“Yeah,” Barrett said, face irritated. “Why don’t you take it inside, Meyers?”

“Why don’t you tell me why you were just kissing that Amazon when you’re in a relationship with my best friend?”

He held out his hands. “Look, I didn’t know you were here.”

“Like that’s some sort of excuse? What would you have done if I hadn’t interrupted?” I reached for my phone but remembered I didn’t have pockets and was in my wedding gown. “I’m calling Elle.”

He caught my arm before I could escape to the inside of the boutique. “Don’t.”

“Barrett!” Phina snapped. “She needs to get out of that gown.”

“Don’t tell Elle.”

“She deserves to know the truth. God, what is it with you Davenport men? Can’t you be satisfied with one good woman?”

His face darkened with fury. “Watch it, Meyers. I’m not my father. And don’t forget, you’re marrying one of us.” He looked me up and down.

“Hale’s not like the rest of you people.”

“You people? I didn’t do anything wrong.”

“You’re literally wearing that woman’s lip gloss.”

“Rayne, the dress…”

Glancing back a Seraphina, who looked about ready to cry, I hesitated, torn between ripping my slutty future brother-in-law a new asshole and preventing my future sister-in-law from having an embolism.

I returned my glare to Barrett. “I warned you not to hurt her.” Then I punched him—right in the junk.

He dropped to his knees and I left him there, marching past his sister and into the back of the store.

Phina rushed in after me. “Let’s get this gown off before anything else happens to it.”

I turned and scowled at the mirror as she carefully fiddled with the straps and hidden zipper. As soon as the veil and dress were off, I stepped into my jeans.

“How could he do that to Elle?”

“Barrett’s Barrett,” Phina said, as if that was any sort of excuse. “He’s always been a womanizer. Your friend probably knows not to expect monogamy from him.”

I hooked my bra around my waist and twisted it so the cups were in the front. “He had his tongue down that woman’s throat!”

“It was just a kiss, Rayne.”

“Everyone knows kissing is a gateway drug.”

“I think you might be overreacting. Maybe you should talk to your friend.”

“Maybe I should punch your brother in the dick again.” Hitting him felt really good.

“Hold still.” She yanked the tape off my boobs.

“Mother fucker!” My hands flew to my chest.

Phina stepped back. “Don’t hit me.”

I growled. “So glad I had my nipples removed before the wedding. What the hell, Phina! You said those things wouldn’t hurt when they came off.”

“They usually don’t. You’re sweating. We’ll have to have the dress cleaned.”

“I’ll pay for it.” I stuffed my wounded tits into my ordinary cotton bra and winced. “Seriously, my nipples are on fire.”

“Maybe you should wait here until Barrett leaves.”

I shoved my arms into my shirt and coat, too angry to sit still. “Do you need anything from me? Credit card? A check?”

“Hale’s got it covered, but I need your measurements.” She glanced down at my wrinkled clothes and sighed. “We can get them tomorrow.”

“Great. Thanks for everything.”

Swinging my purse over my shoulder I marched through the store. As soon as Barrett spotted me he sprung out of a chair and followed.

“Meyers, wait up.”

I lifted my middle finger and kept walking.

“Rayne, please, I need to talk to you.”

“I have nothing to say to you, pig.”

Pushing through the doors I scanned for Marty. Shit, was I supposed to call him? I pulled out my phone but Barrett grabbed it.

“Are you texting Elle?”

I glared at him. “What if I was? Give me my phone back.”

“Don’t text her, Rayne. Please.”

“Oh, suddenly we’re friends? If you don’t give me back my phone I’m going to dick punch you again.”

“Please don’t.”

I held out my hand and he reluctantly placed the phone in my palm. “Thank you.” I texted Marty to let him know I was ready, then walked to the corner. “Go away, Barrett.”

“Look, I know you’re pissed, but I didn’t do anything wrong.”

I spun on my heels and faced him. “Are you kidding me? Ten minutes ago you were counting some chicks teeth with your tongue.”

“So what? Elle’s doing more than that with that douchebag from the gym!”

I stilled. “Wh—what douchebag?”

“The one she’s been seeing for the past few weeks.”

That couldn’t be right. If Elle was seeing another man I’d know. We were best friends and, as such, we told each other everything. It was the law. “You’re lying.”
