In my periphery, Kody reaches for the waste basket, going after the Jell-O he discarded.

“Don’t even think about it.” I grab the bin before he reaches inside it.

“It fell into a paper cup.”

“The cup is garbage. We don’t eat garbage.”

“The cup had clean water in it.”

“And now it’s below the rim.”

“Why does that matter?”

“If it’s below the rim, it’s garbage.”

“What if the garbage was above the rim?”

“Then the three-second rule applies.”

He stares at me. “It’s like talking to Wolf.”

“Wolf would agree with me on this.”

Wolf would’ve also known what Jell-O is because he was a sponge when it came to pop culture and irrelevant information.

Kody snatches the waste bin away and holds it out of reach of my grabby hands while shoving a huge paw inside it.

“Fine. Go ahead.” I turn away. “Just don’t expect to kiss me with your garbage lips.”

The sound of the waste bin hitting the floor makes me smile.

In the next breath, his arms band around me and toss me onto my back on the bed. His body lowers, pinning me beneath his heat.

Bruises and gashes from the crash crisscross his face. But rather than detract from his appearance, they add to his dangerous allure and rugged handsomeness.

His dark hair, hinting at his Inuit heritage, falls just a touch too long in a way that’s stylishly sexy and rebelliously messy. It frames his sculpted features, every sharp angle carved with hardship and silent strength. Freshly shaved, that square jawline accentuates the plush curve of his lips, a contrast to the usual stubble that adds mystery to his imposing, misunderstood demeanor.

But, like Leo, it’s his eyes that always draw me in. Broody, yes, but beautifully so. They guard his emotions while penetrating mine. There’s something about his presence, a quiet magnetism that commands attention without demanding it.

His gaze darkens, and high-voltage currents arc between us, charged with too many weeks without sex.

“Your mouth is distracting,” he says thickly, darkly, oh-so gravelly. “Give it to me.”

This man knows his mind and heart and chooses when to share them as surely as he chooses when to capture my breath.

I’m already straining my neck to reach him. The instant our lips touch, he kisses me with the full brunt of his pent-up arousal. No preamble. No exploration. He consumes me with every intention of deleting my hesitancy and replacing it with his essence, his flavor, his hunger.

Kody, in all his moody, hot-as-fuck glory, isn’t just a pleasure to look at. He’s a brick wall of gentle strength, and I’m reminded of that as he rocks his hips and crushes me into the bed.

His hands sweep over my body, turning me on as his tongue seduces my mouth. My legs fall open, and for a mindless moment, I almost forget where we are.

Almost.

“We can’t do this.”

“You’ve been saying that for a month.” His eyes scorch. “You’re fucking gorgeous, woman.”

Feeling unattractive has been an ongoing and uncomfortable reality, but when I looked in the mirror this morning, I didn’t see the starved, half-dead woman who’s been staring back at me for weeks. I saw a woman who survived hell, a fighter ready to chase her forever with the men she madly, desperately loves.

After two days of nutrients and medical care, I feel stronger, rested, and ready to reclaim the sense of self that starvation and survival stripped away.

I have a long way to go to get my sexy back, but right now, I would love nothing more than to have wild, filthy, celebratory, survivor sex with Leo and Kody.

Except the timing is terrible. We’re in a hospital room, and anyone can walk in.

Then again, timing has never been on our side, always overshadowed by more pressing concerns like freezing, starving, grieving, hiking, solving riddles, fighting wolves and bears, and conquering a psychopath.

But amid all of it, we made time. In the darkest winter, we found one another in the stolen moments and fell in love.

If we don’t take advantage of this moment now, we may not have another for a while. We don’t know where we’re going, where we’ll live, how we’ll support ourselves. The struggle is never-ending.

Letting this reprieve slip through our fingers, losing it to whatever comes next, that’s not us.

We need this.

Leo’s presence, just a few feet away, adds another layer of conviction. His stillness is no less charged with vibrating desire. The wordless understanding in his posture and cautious readiness in his eyes confess his deep love for me.

He expects me to stop this, and he won’t utter a complaint, no matter how badly he wants it.

“How’s your leg?” I grip Kody’s flexing, denim-clad ass.

“Leg is fine. But my cock…” He grinds the hard, heavy beast against my pelvis. “It fucking aches.”

“We need to be quick.” I find Leo’s smoldering eyes.

“I’ll guard the door.” He rises from the bed, drawing my gaze to the swollen bulge trapped behind the zipper of his jeans.
