“I want it to be a happy one. It’s already real, Marcus. I don’t want to be like those other couples I’ve seen at family get-togethers. I don’t like them. The women, they hate their lives. I can see it in the way they look at their husbands. They are afraid.” He saw tears glisten in her eyes. “I don’t want to be afraid of you. Is that too much to ask? I know we have our past and it’s not a good one, but we can get past it.”

He put his hand on her shoulder, feeling her slight tremble. Sliding his hand down, he cupped her tit, rubbing his palm against the peak. Letting her go, he took her hand and placed it over the hard ridge of his dick.

“This is what you do to me, Laura.” He pushed her hand inside his pants, making her take him naked in hand. “This isn’t out of any duty. I like this on you.” With his other hand he circled her nipple, seeing the outline through the fabric of her negligee. “This suits you. But I like it even more when it’s not on you.” He pushed the strap off one arm, letting it fall beneath her generous tit.

He loved her tits. They were ripe, full, and begging to be sucked. He flicked one tip with his thumb, and she let out a moan.

“Marcus?”

“I can promise you I will never hurt you unless you make me. You will always be safe with me, and I won’t ever make you do something you don’t want to do. However, you have to give me a child. No matter what, I cannot budge on that. You’ve got to give me something so I can give you back.” It was the only thing he could offer.

He didn’t want an unhappy marriage either.

With Laura to become the mother of his children, he didn’t want to live in a nightmare to raise them. In the name of his family and The Boss, he would do it. He would do anything required of him, but if he could bargain for something better, he wouldn’t back down, and would give this a shot with Laura. The girl he’d hated for a long time.

Chapter Eight

Four years ago

Laura had never in all of her life been attacked or at the mercy of anyone else. Her hands shook as Marcus marched her up to his penthouse suite. She didn’t know if this was one of his father’s or his.

“You’re hurting me,” she said.

“You need to be fucking hurt with how you put yourself in danger. You claim to be intelligent, but walking around in the dark—”

“I should be free to do just that. To not have some man come and attack me.” She’d been heading home when he pulled her down the alley. No one had come to her rescue if anyone had even seen her at all.

Clearly no one had, as otherwise she wouldn’t be in the predicament she was in now.

Marcus threw her down onto the sofa, and she stayed silent as he dealt with her parents, then his own before turning off his cell phone, sitting in front of her and glaring.

“You could have been killed.”

“It’s not my fault.”

“Where are your guards?”

“I don’t have any. I don’t need any.”

“That will change.”

“You can’t do this. You killed someone. Don’t you care?”

“No! You want to know why? That disgusting prick would have raped you. He’d have taken something that wasn’t his to have, and then killed you because of it. If I hadn’t done what I did, you’d be dead by now. There’s no way I could have let him live.”

“I hate you.” She couldn’t stop seeing the man or the way Marcus had slashed his throat. It hadn’t even been hard to do.

He’d held his head and run his knife across the skin.

So easy.

She shivered.

“Fuck. You know what, you can hate me. I don’t give a fuck. You already hated me to start with, and you’ve pissed me off now. I wasn’t there to rescue you. I was there to get some fucking pussy, and now I can’t have that.”

She started to shake, not out of fear, but she couldn’t control herself.

It had to be the shock. There was no other reason for her to suddenly start shaking.

Marcus cursed.

He removed his jacket, draped it over her shoulders, and before she knew what was happening, he’d pulled her into his lap. His fingers stroked through her hair as if he had a right to touch her.

Did he?

She closed her eyes, and against all of her better judgment, sought comfort in him.

“After the baby, will you kill me?”

“No.”

“How can I be sure?”

“My kid is going to need a mother. The only way you’re going to die, sweetheart, is if someone else takes care of it.” He cupped her hand, which was still on his penis. “Are we really going to have this conversation when you want to know if I’m attracted to you?”
