“All you gotta do is tell me you’re ready, honey. Wanted to make love to you that night but didn’t want to break my promise.” I gave her a cocky grin. “You got one over on me. The last thing I expected you to do was kiss me like that. But, sweet Jesus, that kiss was delicious.”

Thank God, that got a genuine smile from Cecilia. And mother fuck, it was glorious.

“God, you’re beautiful.” My voice came out a mere whisper and with a large helping of awe. “Anything in the fuckin’ world I can do to keep that smile on your face I’ll do. Don’t care what it is, how much it cost, or who I have to fuckin’ kill.”

“I don’t want you to kill anyone.” Her smile didn’t falter, and I could see how the idea pleased her. The longer she looked at me, though, her eyes widened. “I really mean that, Bullet. I don’t want you to kill anyone. Ohmigod! You’re actually serious?”

I did laugh then, pulling her even closer to kiss her forehead. “Don’t look so shocked, baby. I’m a badass biker.”

“You’re a doctor!”

“And a biker.”

“And a dork.” She shifted and I thought she wanted up. When I loosened my hold on her, she shifted to straddle my lap before settling back against me. She laid her head on my shoulder and put her face in my neck. I could feel her lips feathering over my skin.

“You acceptin’ my claim, baby girl?”

“I am.” The fact that she didn’t hesitate told me she was ready.

“You always have the right to say no to anything, Cecilia. I want that straight before we start anything. The only thing I will ever fight you on is something to do with safety. You’re mine. That means I keep you safe.”

“The fact that you’re not willing to compromise on that one thing sets you apart from anything I’ve been used to. So I accept that stipulation.”

“Good. Now. Kiss me and let’s seal this deal.”

With another glorious smile, she leaned in to give me the kiss I’d demanded of her. If I lived to be a hundred, I promised myself I’d never take her trust -- or her kisses -- for granted. They were a gift. Just like the woman.

As the kiss deepened, I could feel the warmth and passion that built between us. Her hands now firmly grasped the back of my neck, pulling me closer as our lips melded together. This moment had been building up for so long, and it was finally here. I knew that nothing would ever be the same. I drank her sweet kisses, welcoming everything she had to give.

I found myself enveloped in the warmth of her presence, feeling a surge of emotion I couldn’t quite place. I hadn’t anticipated this level of depth in what had begun simply: two people sharing the love of a tiny outdoor café and stimulating conversation. But as I watched the sun set behind her, I couldn’t help but feel an overwhelming sense of joy and contentment. I knew that this was not just a temporary connection, but something much deeper and more meaningful.

She looked up at me with those deep, searching eyes and I knew that she shared the same emotions. Her hand cupped my cheek, her fingers brushing softly over my short beard.

“Don’t break my heart, Atticus.” She whispered the little plea.

“Never, baby.”

She stepped back then, pulling her shirt over her head slowly, only breaking eye contact with me when the material blocked her vision. I rested my hands on her thighs, rubbing gently from the edge of her shorts to her knees and back. The feel of her smooth skin was calming and arousing all at the same time.

When she reached back and unhooked her bra, letting the lacy garment flutter down her arms before she set it aside with her shirt, my breath hitched. Her nipples puckered right before my eyes, and she groaned.

“I’ve had more men than I care to think about see me naked. Not one of them looked at me like you are right now.”

“That’s ‘cause they had no clue what they had in their arms. If they did, they’d have snapped you up and kept you. Like I’m doin’. I know it’s probably too soon, but you need to know I have no intention of ever letting you go. You gonna be good with that?” It was a challenge, pure and simple. To both of us. She needed to know, and I wasn’t altogether sure I could pull back even if she protested.

“I know what it means to belong to a man.” Her smile slipped, but she looked more intent than haunted. “I have a feeling that belonging to you will be nothing like what I’ve experienced before. I also think you’re a man who takes care of his possessions. You’d never hurt me.”
