“A little.” She cleared her throat and repeated the answer.
“That should fade,” he said.
“You didn’t use a condom,” she said.
He smiled. “I don’t need to. You belong to me, remember? That isn’t going to change.” He moved toward her and as she leaned forward, he climbed behind her.
He’d get what he wanted eventually. When it came to Mira, no wasn’t a good enough answer.
Chapter Four
Mira was no longer a virgin.
She wasn’t sure how she should feel. Although she’d never admit it, the sex had been amazing. It pissed her off as she was supposed to hate it. Mira had tried her hardest not to satisfy him or participate, but it was next to impossible with the way Drake touched her.
He’d gotten what he wanted. And she’d helped Nigel get out of trouble.
Now what?
It wasn’t as simple as having sex and walking away. Drake wanted more—everything. He expected her to have his children. Since they didn’t use a condom, there was no telling if she was pregnant now. The idea scared the hell out of her. Children should be raised in a loving family, not by two people contracted to breed. People who’d hated each other since high school.
“We have to be out of here in less than an hour, Mira.”
She sat up in the bed, her hair disheveled. What time was it? “Where are we going?”
“To work, of course.” He’d already showered and dressed. The man looked edible in a suit. He walked around the spacious bedroom getting ready for the day. She watched as he attached the clasp of his Rolex.
“Are you dropping me off at work?” She wasn’t sure what the details of her future entailed. Nothing was certain.
“That accounting gig? That’s done with. You’re coming to work with me.”
“But I don’t work for you.”
He adjusted his tie. “I spend a lot of time at work, Mira. I’m not wasting all those good baby-making hours being away from you.”
They were going to have sex in his office? Once the bully, always the bully. Any hope of Drake being the man she needed was quickly doused. She was his breeding vessel and nothing more.
“What should I wear?”
“Right, you have nothing here. We’ll go shopping later,” he said. “You’ll have to wear the same thing today. No panties.”
Once he left the room, she headed to the en-suite washroom and took a quick shower. Then she wore her purple suit and put her panties in the trash. It felt kinky, especially since he’d know she had nothing on underneath her skirt.
She fixed her hair in the mirror. It was hard to feel comfortable when she had nothing of her own. There was nothing of hers here, not even makeup. She used some of his spray deodorant. It smelled like him, and she found herself closing her eyes and savoring the scent.
Until she thought better.
Why was her body and heart in such conflict?
By the time she left the room, Drake had just grabbed his keys from the hall table. He picked up his briefcase and motioned her to come.
“I expect you’ll give me your best effort at work today. Just because I’ve paid off your brother’s debts doesn’t mean I can’t make things unpleasant for him if you recant your end of the deal.”
She rolled her eyes. “If you haven’t noticed, I’ve kept my side of the contract. You took my virginity yesterday.”
Drake smirked and approached her. With his hands full, he brushed his forehead to hers, inhaling deeply near her neck. His lips grazed her cheek, then he pulled away. She was already breathing through her mouth, the moment raising her blood pressure to critical levels. Why did he have such power over her?
They drove in silence to his office building. She’d be spending a lot of time in his penthouse office suite. Did he expect her to learn the business or was she only there as his sex toy?
“I should call Nigel. He’s home alone with two broken legs.”
“Your brother is taken care of.”
“Am I not allowed to have contact with my family?”
“Family is overrated, Mira.”
She gritted her teeth. It was one thing to steal her life, but cutting off her brother wasn’t part of this bargain. Their father’s death had destroyed Nigel. Losing her would be too much. All they had left were each other.
“Relax, Mira. You can call your brother from my office.”
She exhaled, glad she didn’t have to fight Drake on this. It was hard enough dealing with her former bully every day. He was a constant reminder of a childhood she’d rather forget.
The city flashed by as they drove along the downtown streets. So much had happened the past few days. It was all surreal.
He pulled into the underground lot of his building, the one with his name in big, bright letters. Drake Eastwood had made himself into a multi-millionaire, or was he a billionaire? And she’d just sold her body because Nigel was drowning in debt. Where had she gone wrong in life?
