“Much better,” I said. “Nico bought her this giant stuffed rabbit from FAO Schwarz. You should see it, it takes up practically her whole bedroom.”

My dad didn’t chuckle, and I sensed that he was going to take a little time to come around. I should have expected as much, but it stung.

“I’m sure,” Dad said finally. “Well, hon, I’ll let you go, but I’ll plan on coming down this weekend. Sound good?”

“Sounds great,” I told him. “Can’t wait.”

We hung up and I took a deep breath. Ada came flying out of the bathroom. Her face and the front of her Moana shirt was soaking wet, and I laughed.

“Pop-pop is coming to visit this weekend,” I said.

Ada squealed and began running around the room.

“Just to see you and meet Daddy,” I added.

“Mommy, where does Daddy live?” Ada asked. “Why doesn’t he live with you? All mommies and daddies should live together,” she added.

I frowned. “You know, that’s a good question,” I said. “We should go visit him.”

I bundled up Ada in her fall coat and sneakers and then we got back on the subway and rode into Manhattan. Ada was astonished by the sight of the city at dusk – it occurred to me that she’d never been in this part of New York at night before – and she was gawping all the way to Nico’s condo.

I hadn’t been over in weeks, and I was worried that surprising him was a bad idea, but he was grinning as he opened the door.

“Nice to see my girls,” Nico said. He squatted down and gave Ada a kiss. “Are we staying overnight?”

“Yes!” Ada practically screamed the word, then launched herself into his apartment and began running around in circles, touching and looking at everything she saw.

“Is it child-proofed?” I asked in a low voice.

Nico shrugged. “I doubt she can get into too much trouble,” he said. Then, chuckling, he added: “at least I never took Clint up on the offer to get that fish tank.”

I snorted. Making sure to keep one eye on Ada, I set my bag down on the floor.

“You don’t mind us dropping in, do you?”

Nico grinned and my heart melted.

“No,” he said. “I love it.”

The air between us was thick with passion and chemistry. I love you was on the tip of my tongue, but I couldn’t say it – not now, not with our daughter running around like a headless chicken.

“Want to watch a movie?” Nico asked. “I’m not much of a cook, but we can order something. What do you feel like?”

“Pizza!” Ada screamed from inside the living room.

Nico turned to me with one eyebrow raised. “That okay with you?”

I smiled. “It works,” I said. “It definitely works.”

An hour later, Ada was passed out on the couch with her small stuffed bunny clutched in her hand. The coffee table was littered with empty boxes from pizza and garlic bread and calzones that Nico had insisted I just had to try. I felt stuffed and sated and happy, and I sighed happily and rested my head on Nico’s shoulder.

“You know, my dad is coming into the city this weekend,” I said. “He wants to meet you.”

Nico turned to me. “He wants to meet me? Or you want me to meet him?”

I blushed. “A little of both,” I admitted. “But I’m sure you’ll get along. He’s a great guy.”

Nico brushed a strand of hair behind my ear. “He’d have to be,” he said. “He had you, didn’t he?”

I bit my lip. “He did,” I said.

When Nico leaned in and kissed me, I melted against his frame. The kiss turned from warm to steamy and hot and I moaned softly, opening my mouth to his tongue.

“We should go into the bedroom,” Nico whispered, breaking the kiss and looking down at our sleeping daughter.

“Will she be okay here?”

Nico took some of the cushions off the couch and put them on the floor, in case Ada fell off.

“She’ll be fine,” he said. “I can’t tell you how many times I’ve slept on that couch, and I’ve never rolled off.”

We kissed again when we got to our feet. Kissed all the way into the bedroom, where Nico put his arms around me and pushed me onto the bed.

“I’ve wanted this since you first got here,” Nico growled in my ear. He climbed on top of me and I giggled and pushed him over, then climbed on top of him until I was straddling him.

“What’s this?” Nico asked.

I smirked at him. “You were in charge last time,” I said in a sing-song voice. “Now it’s my turn.”

Nico growled and tried to push me off, but I pressed my hands down on his chest and ran them down his body until I was touching the bulge of his hard-on through his pants. As soon as I touched his cock, Nico stopped resisting and I grinned. I made my way down his body and unbuckled his belt, then slid his pants down his leg. His cock popped free and I gasped – I loved the way he almost never wore boxers. He smelled musky and delicious and I moaned softly as I lowered my face to his cock. Breathing on the tender head was enough to elicit a groan of desire from Nico and I felt a powerful rush shoot through my body.
