“No, man,” I growl. “I’m not fucking laughing.”

He looks down, running his hands over his face as his shoulders slump.

“Jesus, Beck, I didn’t—you know I’d never…” He swallows, looking up at me. “Dude, she just walked into the dark room. I thought she was this girl I was talking to earlier. Beck, you know there’s no way I’d ever purposefully—”

“I know, man,” I say quietly, shaking my head and looking away. “I know.”

And I’m still hard. I’m still very hard at the image burned into my head of Kempton coming as she bounces that sweet little pussy up and down Porter’s cock. Why am I hard? Why was it so fucking hot watching her like that?

As if on cue, the bathroom door flies open. Porter and I both yank our eyes over to see Kempton standing there, clothed and so red it looks like she might cry, and trembling.

“I—”

Her eyes dart to Porter, holding his gaze for a full second before she drags those baby blues over to me. She blinks twice, and her face grows even redder as I hold her gaze unflinchingly and without blinking, before she finally drops her eyes.

“I have to go.”

She lurches past me, running full-tilt out the door and down the hall, and I listen to the sound of her storming down the stairs back into the party. I turn back to see Porter still sitting there in bed, a sheet over his lap and his face white as a corpse. He looks up at me, slowly shaking his head.

“I didn’t know, Beck,” he says quietly, his voice a rasping whisper. “I didn’t know. Jesus, I am fucked, man.”

I frown, shaking my head.

“I’ll fix it, okay?”

“If this gets out, I could go jail,” he says quietly. “I mean, fuck, she’s a student for Christ’s sake.”

“She’s eighteen.”

He winces, clenching his teeth dropping his face to his hands.

“Fine, fired and career ruined for life.”

“Hey, it’s not jail.”

He looks up at me, his eyes hard, and I grin wryly.

“Look, I’ll fix this, okay? Put your fucking pants on, have a drink, and stay the fuck here.”

And with that, I turn, and I storm after her.

It doesn’t take me long to find Kempton. After glancing through the party, I duck outside, and it’s there I find her sitting on a little wooden bench in the landscaped side yard, her face in her hands and crying quietly.

“Hey.”

She freezes at the sound of my voice, bristling before she wipes her eyes and stands as if to run off again.

“Kempton, hang on. C’mere. Sit.”

“Beck, I—”

“Weird night, huh?”

I move into her, and this time she just barks out a brittle laugh. But when I pull her gently against me, she falls against my chest, laughing again, but this time a little less harshly.

“Uh, yeah.” I can feel her swallow as she dries her eyes against my shirt.

“I thought—never mind.”

“What?”

She shakes her head.

“Kempton, you can tell me.”

“I thought it was you,” she mumbles.

And fuck if I don’t start grinning as I hold her close there in the dark of the garden to the side of the party house.

“So, guess you caved first, huh?”

She sighs as she steps back from me, trying to hide her smile as she shoots me a look.

“Fuck you.”

“No, you didn’t.”

She groans. “That’s not…” Her brow furrows. “I can’t—fuck, Beckett, I feel like such a…” she trials off, shaking her head.

“What.”

“Nothing.”

“Hey,” I growl lowly, reaching out and putting my hands on her arms. “You’ve got nothing to feel bad about.”

“I slept with your brother, Beckett,” she mumbles, looking at her shoes.

“We aren’t blood.”

“Does that matter?” she says quietly.

I take a second before I open my mouth.

“Did you like it?”

Her face goes bright red, and I watch her chew on her bottom lip as she doesn’t answer me.

“You’re hesitating.”

She groans again. “This is weird, okay?”

“Not what you imagined tonight being?”

I smile as I pull her close and wrap an arm around her shoulders.

“C’mon. I’ll drive you home.”

“Have you been drinking?”

I shake my head. “No. I’ve got training tomorrow. You?”

She shakes head. “Not one.”

“Well, guess that makes it better about Porter screwing a student.”

She cringes, her face going red again as she looks down.

“Banging your barely legal student tends to get a lot worse if there’s underage drinking involved, you know?”

She shoots me a look. “Can we just go?”

“Yeah,” I grin, gesturing with my head. “C’mon.”

I lead her across the lawn to the street. When we get to my Jeep, I dramatically get the door for her, which makes her grin and blush a little as she slides past me. She’s about to climb up into the seat when she pauses, biting her lip as she turns back to me.

“Beck, I’m sorr—”

“You got nothing to be sorry about, Kempton,” I growl.

“I really thought it was you,” she says quietly.

“Yea, I knew you’d cave first.”
