Ahhh, fuck. And now I’m hard.

Bri doesn’t spare me a single glance before taking off after Addison, and I don’t make a move until I hear the door opening down the hall and softly closing behind her again. Finally, I ball my hands into fists and take a calming breath, not prepared to lose myself again.

I take a step toward my father just as he spins around to face me, rage burning in his eyes. “What did I tell you about screwing that gold-digging whore?”

My fist rears back and I—

“TANNER!” my mother snaps from my open door, still tying her silk robe at her waist, looking disheveled with puffy eyes from a night of drinking and crying. “You dare raise a fist in my house, and I will show you the door.”

Shit.

I reluctantly lower my fist, but before I get a chance to defend myself, my mother’s stare turns to stone as she faces my father. “You have a lot of nerve showing up here, Trenton,” she says. “I want you out of my house.”

“Sara, no,” he says, shaking his head and stepping toward Mom. “We can talk about this. Don’t just throw away twenty years of marriage.”

“Marriage?” she laughs. “What marriage? You’re living it up with some other woman in Australia, giving her your time, patience, and love. Hell, you gave her three children as well. We have no marriage. What we have is a lie, a sham. You’ve made me the laughingstock of Bradford. You’ve humiliated me.”

“Please, Sara. You’re the love of my life,” he says. “I never meant to hurt you. It just happened. I didn’t mean to fall in love with her.”

“I want you out of my house,” she says, crossing her arms over her chest and fixing him with a venomous stare. “Pack up your shit and never come back here. I don’t ever want to see you again, and in case you haven’t caught on, I’ll be filing for divorce the moment my lawyer’s office opens.”

Mom turns on her heel and stalks away, but Dad isn’t finished with her yet, determined not to allow it to end just like that. “Sara?” he shouts, storming out of my room after her.

I step out in the hallway just as Mom walks back to her room, closing the door behind her and flicking the lock. Dad hurries after her, his fist slamming against the hardwood. “Sara,” he booms. “Open the door. I’m not through with you.” He bangs again, getting more aggressive by the second. “I’m not walking away, Sara. Open the fucking door.”

“You’re being childish, Trenton,” Mom calls from within just moments before the door springs open and Mom shoves a pre-packed duffle bag into Dad’s arms, clearly having already thought this through. “I’ve wasted years waiting on you. I’ve allowed you to walk all over me, but I’m through. There is no coming back from this. Now go! Leave your key on the way out.”

Mom slams the door in his face and he’s left standing in the hallway, banging on the door once again. “Open the fucking door. You don’t get to decide when you’re through with me. You’re my wife. You obey me.”

Oh, hell no.

I storm down the hallway, determined to put this fucker in his place. No one speaks to my mother like that and gets away with it. “The fuck did you just—”

The door tears open and my mother comes storming out, shoving my father in the chest. “Excuse you?” she spits, stepping into him and forcing him back as his eyes widen, realizing way too late what just came out of his mouth. “Where the hell do you get off speaking to me like that?”

“Sara, I—”

“OUT. NOW,” she roars, her whole body shaking with rage. “If you step foot in this house again, I will call the authorities to have you removed. Do not make me ask again.”

“You won’t even hear me out?” he questions.

“There is not a single word that could come from your mouth that I wish to hear,” she tells him, not wavering for even a second. “You destroyed our marriage. You lied to me. You bedded another woman and betrayed my trust. You took our vows and regarded them as nothing more than trash. Get out of here, Trenton. Go back to your little whore across the globe. Go and enjoy your new children and leave mine the hell alone. I just hope you don’t screw them over like you did us.”

With that, Mom storms past him, shoulder charging him as she goes. She makes her way downstairs, refusing to look back and give him the satisfaction. As of this very second, Trenton Morgan is dead to my mother. Hell, he’s dead to me too.

My father turns, desperation in his eyes as he glances toward Addison’s closed door, but I take a step to my right, blocking his way. “Addison made it clear she doesn’t want a damn thing to do with you,” I remind him before indicating the duffle bag in his arms. “Looks like you’ve got everything you need. For what it’s worth, I hope your new wife is smart enough to take her kids and run. They deserve a shitload better than a fuck up like you.”
