“Oh, I’m well aware. My guys told me exactly how far you got and still have to go.”

That snaps me fully awake. “Wh-What?”

“You didn’t fuck him. I want you to do that, and I want you to make it so good he can’t stand being without his dick inside you.”

I mean, I’m not terrible-looking, but somehow, I think he can resist my charms in my current state. Before I can think of an answer, he stands and paces back and forth beside my bed, one wall to one wall in my tiny bedroom that is more like a glorified closet.

“I want you to fuck him, and I want you to get the information I need from him.”

It’s on the tip of my tongue to tell him no. To try to figure a way out of this, but no matter what I say, it won’t matter. Once he gets stuck on a course of action, he sticks with it until his plan is complete. And whatever he has planned for Ivan can’t be good.

I sit up in bed and hug my blankets to my chest even though I’m in my ratty pajamas. “Don’t you have another girl? Someone he will like better?”

He waves his hand, still lost in thought. “Oh, we tried several girls and a couple of guys, but he didn’t bite on any of them. None of them inspired the rage you brought out in him. It has to be you and no one else. I think if I send you back in there, you’ll be able to get anything I want out of him.”

“And what’s that? What can he possibly know that sex will get him to confess to me?”

He turns his cold eyes on me, and I resist the urge to shrink away. “Did I ask you for your opinion on this? I don’t believe I did.”

Like a cobra, he strikes out, the back of his hand connecting with my cheek. It’s so fast I don’t have time to react. My face goes sideways, and I know that strike was hard enough to leave a visible bruise. It hurts, but I’m beyond crying at his abuse. It only makes him want to hit me more. “Can you at least tell me what you want me to get out of him? So I can try to lead him to the right answers?”

He’s gone back to his pacing, not answering, and I’m repeating over and over in my mind my wish for him to leave the room and let me be in peace for a while.

When he stops pacing, he turns to face me, his hands tucked tightly behind his back in the classic military at ease position. “I want to know about the drugs his family runs. I want to know how close they are to bringing down the main branch of our family, and I want to know what it will take to get him on my side.”

I blink. He’s got to be crazy. Adrian Doubeck’s men are unturnable. It’s a well-known fact that his people are as loyal to him as family. Not that family or blood mean much in our world.

I gently press my fingers to my cheek to check the tenderness. “Any way I get a choice in this?”

He raises his hand like he’s going to hit me again, his eyes narrowing. I flinch back this time to protect my face, but he stops and then drops his hands, contempt in his gaze. “Remember where you come from, girl, and remember where I can send you if you don’t obey me.”

At this point, maybe the graveyard wouldn’t be so bad. I don’t know how much more I can take of playing whore for my father to trade and sell away. It disgusts me. I want out so bad, and it’s the only reason I attempted to tangle with Ivan.

I keep the distance between us and stare away from him now. “Anything else?”

He makes a non-committal noise and heads to the door. On the way out, he calls, “Try not to die on your first interrogation, pumpkin.”

The nickname makes bile rise in my throat. I lie on the pillow and roll away from the door to face the other empty white wall. Maybe things will go better for me on this track. I couldn’t win my freedom on my own, but Ivan could offer a different kind of freedom. If he kills me, I won’t have to be here anymore and face the consequences of my choices. If I was going to die, I’d rather it be at his hand than my father’s or one of his guards. Who knew what they would do to my body after my soul fled.

I remember the strong feel of his hands on my skin. Yeah, it won’t take much for him to snap and get his revenge.
