“Somebody’s gonna have hell to pay for this. Not only is my plane out of commission, but they didn’t even book me first class,” I snarl into my phone to the jet mechanic who I know has nothing to do with this shitty situation.

I just need to let off some steam before I blow my top in front of a flight full of passengers. If I didn’t need to be back in town for this meeting tomorrow, I’d just spend another night in L.A., but this deal is too important for my company’s future. So, here I am boarding a flight along with the vacationers in their khaki shorts, crying babies, and a little girl in the seat next to mine who looks like she might try to jump out the tiny window before we take off.

These seats aren’t made for guys my size, and I grunt as I shove my bag in the overhead compartment and try to fit my body in what looks like a toddler’s car seat. My leg and arm brush against the girl in the window seat, and she nearly leaps out of her skin.

“Sorry,” I grumble but she doesn’t acknowledge me. She has her face plastered to the window like she’s trying to memorize what the ground looks like in case she never sees it again.

From the moment we take off, the plane groans and creaks under the pressure. The sky opens up splattering, then pummeling the wings with raindrops the size of golf balls. I glance over at her and see that she’s digging her fingers into her shaking thighs. Her breath is fogging up the tiny window and I tell her, “Maybe you should close the blind. You might feel better if you can’t see what’s going on out there.”

Again, she doesn’t respond. It’s as though she’s in her own little world incapable of recognizing anything outside of her terror. At least she’s agonizing in silence. That’s better than sitting next to a screaming baby or a chattering tourist. I lean back and close my eyes, telling myself it’s better to just ignore her.

I doze off for a few minutes, but as the thunder rolls and the lightning illuminates the sky, the plane begins to bounce and shake. Several of the overhead compartments open up, spilling belongings into the aisle.

“Oh god. I don’t want to die like this. Why did I get on this plane?” she shrieks.

“You aren’t gonna die. It’s just rough air. It’ll settle down once we get through the storm.”Again, she ignores me. Normally, I’d ignore her too, but something about her draws me. I don’t even know her name and haven’t seen her face. For all I know, she’s a teenager traveling without her parents for the first time.

See, I’m the kind of guy who likes to mind his own business, but her vulnerability at this moment causes a surge of protectiveness in me. Fuck if I know why.

“You know, we can ask for a brown paper bag if you…” As the words leave my lips, the plane rocks hard and other passengers begin to squeal and chatter.

“Ladies and gentlemen, please remain in your seats with your seatbelts fastened,” the pilot’s voice comes over the PA system.

“Jesus, I think I’m gonna hurl. This can’t be happening to me right now. I don’t want to die a virgin.”

Wait. What did she just say?

My head whips to her, and my soul is ripped out of my body. Fuck me. Who is this? What I initially thought was a teenager is actually the most beautiful girl I’ve ever seen. Even with her face ashen, sweat beading on her forehead and top lip, and eyes glazed over, I’ve never laid eyes on anyone like her. No one remotely close.

Her breaths are shallow and erratic, eyes darting around the cabin. Whatever protectiveness I felt has just increased tenfold. I don’t even think twice when I cover her hand with mine.

And just like that, my blood rushes south. Because of fucking course. Of all times to get an erection, it has to be while I’m trying to calm her down.

Her eyes widen, and she pulls her hand back, staring at it like I just burned her. Hell, maybe she feels it too. The electric current zapping through the air when we touched.

Her color comes back, and a blush creeps on her cheeks. She sucks in a sharp breath and without another word, climbs over my lap to run to the bathroom. I don’t know if it’s intentional, but her tits brush my face, her hand almost grazing my rock-hard cock.

I turn around and watch as she makes it to the bathroom and slips inside, but the “Vacant” sign never switches to “Occupied.” She probably needs me because I’m the only one who can help her right now. The last thing I want is for her to faint and hit her head on the toilet seat.
