“Can I tell you how amazing I think you are?” I say as I glance up at him.

Boone’s arm tightens around me, our paper gowns rustling noisily. He glances down at me. “You do not need to say that. I had so much fun helping to put this together. And watching Aiden strut around like a peacock in front of all his friends because the Pittsburgh Titans are here to celebrate his birthday is worth any reward I could ever have.”

I bust out laughing because it’s true. Aiden is hot shit right now and I am happy to let him soak it up. The kid deserves every minute of it.

“Are you still on board to come stay at my place tonight?” Boone asks.

Warmth floods through me—a mixture of excitement and tingly nerves. Boone and I haven’t had a chance to be alone since we were at his apartment watching Paranormal Activity two nights ago. We were intimate with each other, at least to the extent that he touched me in the most private of places and sent me soaring with pleasure. He very pointedly asked me this morning if I would stay with him and then he made sure to clarify that meant he wanted me to stay the night so he could make me soar again.

I’m not sure what that means. Is he going to let me touch him? Or is he going to dole out another orgasm and not let me do anything in return? Maybe we’ll just go all the way, which I am more than ready for. But I don’t need the answers to any of those questions because I prefer not knowing. I trust Boone and whatever he has planned.

“I’m looking forward to it,” I say.

Boone chuckles, lowering his voice as he turns on the sexy mischief. “If you knew what I had planned, you would be more than looking forward to it. You’d be bouncing off the walls with anticipation.”

I turn halfway to face him, looking up in question. I hope he can see by my raised eyebrows and wide eyes that I actually do need a bit of a hint about what to expect now. That was too enticing.

Boone shrugs and in a swift move, pulls down the front of his mask just long enough to kiss my forehead. “I’m not about to tell you a thing. I’ll just let you wonder.”

And with that he turns and walks away from me, leaving me perplexed, amused and more than a little turned on.

I notice that Aiden’s two friends have moved off and he’s sitting alone at the table. He’s using his fork to smear icing around the plate’s edge.

I join my brother, sitting in a recently vacated chair to his left. Because I know him so well, I can see he’s tired by the slight dullness in his eyes.

“How are you feeling?” I ask, restraining myself from touching his forehead. For some reason, anytime I see him at less than base level, I want to check for a fever.

To my relief, he smiles and his voice sounds normal. “I’m fine. Stomach hurts a little but I think I had too much cake.”

“You look a little tired,” I observe.

“I am, but don’t you dare even think about calling this party over. The finals are starting on the tabletop hockey and I’m in it.”

Laughing, I shake my head. “You can party until you drop today. It’s your birthday.”

Aiden’s gaze drops to his plate. “Wish Dad could’ve been here.”

“Me too.” I reach over and pat his knee. I want to hug him, but I’m pretty sure that’s not considered cool in front of his friends. “He’s got permission to call after dinner.”

“Yeah… I know.”

His tone is a little off. Is he fatigued? “I can stay here tonight.”

Aiden’s head pops up. “No way. You’ve got a date with Boone.”

Yeah… not really a date. I don’t think. Staying at his house tonight pretty sure just means sex, but Aiden doesn’t need to know that.

“Plenty of time for us to go on dates. You’re more important.”

Aiden shakes his head so hard his cap slides a little. He reaches up and rights it, giving me a stern look. “You’re going out with Boone tonight as well as Saturday. And I don’t want to hear a thing about it.”

Saturday night there’s a barbecue at Baden and Sophie’s place.

And then Boone invited me to go to the first game of the second round next week. His family is flying in and he wants me to meet them. I made sure these things were okay with Aiden who was more than thrilled for me to go. It’s easier these are all evening events since I’m able to work from the hospital during the day while hanging with my brother.

“Okay,” I capitulate. “But if you’re not feeling better later, I’m canceling.”
