Dion exhales, staring up at Mal. “You okay, dawg? Monkey didn’t have his banana today or what?”

Malyk stops, the corner of his lip curling with a twitch. I know Dion has hit the nail with that one, and we both know he hasn’t been out. We don’t encourage it, so we haven’t brought it up, and since we’ve all been at the house, he’s not been as bad. We know the kills he has done haven’t been enough for him. He’d leave a river of blood up and down the coast. That hasn’t happened since she has come into his life.

“I can’t because I’m here.”

“Well, you could,” I say, looking back down on the streets. “Lots of meat out there.”

Malyk ignores me as Dion clears his throat from the back of the room. “Just saying, probably not a good idea to shit where we eat.”

I brush them all off, making my way to Dion and taking the goblet off him. I bring it to my mouth and shoot it back, dragging my tongue over the metallic liquid. “Need to get this over with.”

“Mmhmm…” Malyk mumbles. “And right after this harvest, guess where I’m going?”

I don’t have to know where he’s going. Malyk is impulsive and needy. He gets everything that he has ever wanted in life. I have no doubt he’s about to get her.

I toss my hoodie over my head, ignoring them both. “Just get the fuck out there.”

I watched as the clouds pass through the sky. The island got smaller and smaller the more we pulled away. The waves were vicious, the wind wild. I had to get back to the mainland before she made a scene, and I looked back down at my phone, seeing seventeen missed calls.

I was in trouble. In more ways than one.

“You look at your phone a lot.” His voice stuck to me like glue, but I didn’t turn. I kept my hands on the railing, squeezing tightly whenever I got the urge to. He was different from the others. I knew that. There was something about him that I didn’t trust, though. I didn’t. I couldn’t. Why the hell would I trust him—or any of them when I had seen what was happening?

Who was the girl? Why was her face so hidden from everyone, and why did she look hurt? She was different.

So fucking different.

I wanted answers, but I knew they wouldn’t give them to me. They held on to secrets tighter than anyone, and it would take more than me to break it apart.

“I have to.” I tucked my phone back into my pocket. “I have a whole other life outside of this one.” I turned to face his piercing blue eyes. “And you know that.”

Shiloh

I can’t stop counting the tiles on the ceiling. I lost count around one hundred. I toss and turn, picking up my phone from my bedside table to check the time when a message comes through from the group chat. It’s two a.m. Why the hell are they texting me at this time? Bad dreams aside, I’ve been struggling with sleeping since losing Mom.

I shuffle up on my bed, bringing my knees to my chest as I contemplate opening the text. It’s from Dion, so I know it’s either going to be something that will piss me off or turn me on.

I push open.

Tick, tock…the countdown is on…

I start typing a response but delete the words when I realize I actually don’t want to respond with a text. I’d rather send a photo instead. Sliding down my bed, I raise my phone up to my face, flipping the selfie camera on and biting my lip. I snap the first shot, realizing it’s not slutty enough. Grabbing my top from the bottom, I pull it over my head and relax back down, holding my boobs with my arm. I fluff my hair around my face and slightly part my lips before snapping the shot.

“Jesus…” I look down at the photo, swiping through the filters to give it extra edge. I settle on a rustic style that brings out my natural tan and hit send…I pause when I think over a caption.

A shame you have morals…because I’m pretty bored right now.

Laughing, I roll onto my back and place my phone back to charge. It’s the last thought I have before I drift back off into a deep sleep.

The mattress dips, and my eyes part open. Sleep pulls me into a trance, but I can’t seem to grasp it. Reaching aimlessly for my phone to check the time again, I hit air and let out a deep sigh, shuffling up my bed.

A hand comes to my throat, and my eyes pop open like a bucket of ice was just doused over my body. I try to shoot up from my bed, but they slam me back down onto the mattress. Lips come to my ear.
