I reached over and lifted Chloe’s blanket, letting the sun shine down on her adorable face. “Believe it or not, our girl turned two months old today. She’s still getting up several times a night, but I don’t mind. I enjoy having those quiet moments with her. Besides, I know it won’t last.”

Chloe started fussing, so I reached inside her car seat and felt around for her pacifier. Once I found it, I slipped it back in her mouth and said, “I finally heard back from that headhunter I told you about. He wanted to know if I was interested in working at a marketing firm in Seattle. It pays incredibly well, and I would be part of a four-man team with my own office. It sounds amazing, but I’m not sure I want to take on a job like that when Chloe is so young.”

“I’m sure you aren’t surprised. It’s just like me to spend all those long nights studying and writing those stupid papers just so I could turn down my dream job. I know it’s crazy, but I know it’s the right thing to do.’

I glanced over my shoulder, and a twinge of sadness washed over me as I looked at the empty parking lot. There was a time when I wouldn’t be at my parents’ gravesite for five minutes before Wyatt would come rolling up to check on me. So much had changed over the past year. It was like I was living a completely different life.

“Oh, I heard from Lacy the other day. She called to tell me that Aaron asked her to marry him, and she said yes! She’s officially engaged! Can you believe that? I’m so happy for her! They’ve only been dating for a few months, but he seems crazy about her. And she’s definitely crazy about him. They’re planning to come up for a visit next month so they can meet Chloe, and I can’t wait to see them.”

Chloe started fussing again, so I reached into the car seat again and grabbed her pacifier. I quickly slipped it into her mouth as I said, “There you go, sweet pea.”

I waited to make sure she was good, then draped the blanket back over the car seat. I was trying to think about what else I wanted to share with them when I heard the faint rumble of a motorcycle. A smile swept over my face as I turned and watched Wyatt pull into the parking lot.

Unlike the times before, he didn’t wait for me to come back to the car. Instead, he got off his bike and started over to us. He was wearing his jeans and Satan’s Fury cut, and he looked just as unbelievably handsome as the first day we met. As soon as he approached, I smiled and said, “I didn’t think you were coming.”

“I couldn’t miss the chance to see my girls.” He knelt down next to Chloe and peeked under the blanket as he asked, “How’s she doing?”

“She’s been wonderful, just like always.”

“I’m not surprised.” Concern crossed his eyes as he asked, “And what about you? Are you doing okay?”

“I’m good. I was just about to wrap up things here and head home.”

“Want me to take her down to the car?”

“Yeah, that would be great.” I leaned over and gave him a quick kiss. “I’ll be there in a minute.”

“Take your time.”

I waited as Wyatt lifted Chloe’s car seat and carried it down the hill. When he opened the door and started to put her inside, I whispered, “I’ve got it good, Momma. Really good. He loves me like Dad loved you, and I couldn’t ask for more than that.”

I stood and picked up my blanket. I shook it out, then said, “I’m not sure when I’ll make it back by. Just know that you’re always in my thoughts, and I love you all.”

I walked back down to Wyatt and Chloe with a full heart and a smile on my face. I was officially a believer.

Dreams really do come true.
