I laughed nervously in response.

He nodded at me. “Thank you.” Then he went on to meet my parents.

Angelo went with him to make the introductions with my parents.

I focused on the rest of his party. His mother had come down with a migraine last night and been unable to make it today, but there was a standing promise I would head over to Boston in two weeks to personally pay her a visit.

His older brother, Luca, who ran the family also did not come. He had to fly to Geneva. I saw a photo of him, wearing a dark suit and he looked more like a movie star than a Mafia don. You could only tell when you looked closely at his eyes to see how cold-eyed and dangerous he was.

On this trip, only his nieces, a pair of twins, his sister’s daughter, and a few extended family members had arrived.

The two teenage girls giggled excitedly and I was instantly charmed by them.

Angelo soon came to rescue me and he remained by my side until it was time for lunch. It looked like a banquet fit for a king, one I savored every moment of. It was everything I’d ever dreamed of. My parents happy, Angelo by my side, his father approving of me.

Once we were done, everyone retired to their rooms to rest before dinner while I returned to mine with my fiancé.

The moment we got in, I collapsed on the bed. I hadn’t spent time with the love of my life for two whole weeks and I was desperate to taste him again. I stared up at him as he shrugged his jacket off and with my forefinger, beckoned him over. He quickly took off his shirt, a wide smile across his face as he joined me on the bed.

With his weight on his forearms, he poised himself just above me. His torso was bare, his flawless skin glistening with life and his rock-hard muscles bulging.

I lifted myself up and slipped my tongue into his mouth for a long, sensual kiss. My arms tightened around his shoulders and he collapsed on top of me. We both burst out laughing. I reached down to kick my heels off, when he said. “Don’t take them off.”

I grinned cheekily at him and rolled with him till I was on top of him. Then I sat up and looked down on him. He was beautiful. So beautiful, I just wanted to sit here and watch him all night long.

My hands cradled his face while he brushed my hair to the side. “I missed you, Sienna. God, how I missed you. I can’t wait until everything is sorted out and we can be together again.”

I nibbled lightly on his chin. “I missed you more.” And I meant it too. He’d been busy sorting things out, but all I had to do was make a few shoes and wait for him to come back. I missed him with every fiber of my being.

“Did you enjoy lunch?” he asked.

“I did, but I couldn’t stop feeling a bit tense,” I replied.

“Why? You knew my father liked you.”

“Yes, I kinda got that impression, but I was afraid someone would pull out a gun on someone else.”

His chest rumbled with low laughter at my comment. “What? Why would anyone pull out their gun?”

“Well, two powerful mafia families in the same room? A lot could go wrong.”

“You, my love, have been watching too many Hollywood mafia movies,” he teased.

“When I was eight, my mom pulled out a gun on my father during my birthday lunch. Apparently, she thought he’d been cheating on her and she had kept silent about it. That afternoon, she just snapped. Gemma immediately carried me away and I never saw how it ended, but I’ll never forget that. So yeah, the dining table can be a battleground.”

“It’s always the sweet, butter wouldn’t melt in my mouth ones you have to watch out for,” he said.

I narrowed my eyes at him. “What? If you ever cheat on me, I’ll do the same!”

He smiled. “If I ever cheat on you, you’re permitted to pull a gun out on me. I’ll even help you put the bullet through my head.”

I shuddered slightly at his response. “You’re too serious, Angelo. I was just teasing you.”

“Speaking of the dining table, I watched you tonight. Do you have anything you want to tell me?”

“It’s good when you can’t take your eyes off me,” I teased.

“Yes, very good, but this time I couldn’t stop watching you because you weren’t drinking. Everyone at the table was enjoying the best champagne from your father’s vineyard, but you kept rejecting it. You didn’t even take a single sip. Is everything all right?”

My heart felt as if it had stopped beating inside my chest. I splayed a hand gently across my stomach, and could have sworn I heard his breath hitch.
