“Yeah, but… Blueberries.” Nora sighed. She hadn’t picked up her fork yet. She intended to savor every bite and eat it slowly. She refused to even share it with Mateo.

He was stuck with some other cupcake that didn’t interest her at all.

“What did you say this one is again?” he asked Ellie.

“It’s a flavor I’m testing. Malted Milk. Let me know what you think. You’re my guinea pig,” Ellie informed him.

Mateo laughed. “Okay. No pressure or anything.”

As a shadow fell over them, Nora glanced up to see Mateo’s sister, Maya.

“Ohhh, that looks delicious,” Maya said in her soft voice.

Nora scooted her chair back and jumped up to give Maya a hug. She’d never seen Mateo’s usually quiet, shy sister outside of the restaurant.

“Hey, Maya,” Mateo said, “join us for a cupcake.”

Maya’s cheeks pinkened and she rubbed her hands together nervously. “Oh, I wouldn’t want to intrude. I just came in to get myself a treat. I’ll take it back to the restaurant and eat it in the office.”

Mateo shook his head. “Nonsense.” He rose and pulled out a chair for her. “Sit. You’re not intruding.”

“He’s right,” Nora agreed. “We’d love for you to join us.”

Ellie leaned in conspiratorially to say, “I’d love it if you’d also taste test my Malted Milk cupcake, Maya.”

Maya’s face lit up. “Really? That’d be great.”

Ellie turned around and skipped toward the back room.

Mateo smiled. “Our father used to make chocolate malts for us when we were kids. If this cupcake tastes anything like that, Maya will never want to leave Little Cakes.”

Maya pointed at Mateo’s. “Well, take a bite. Tell me.”

“Nope.” He shook his head. “I’ll wait for yours to come. We’ll try it together.”

Nora tapped her leg impatiently, waiting politely for Maya’s cupcake to arrive. Her mouth was watering in anticipation of the burst of blueberry she knew was coming any minute.

Finally, Ellie returned and set a second Malted Milk cupcake in front of Maya. “Enjoy!” She raced away just as fast. The line at the register was growing.

Nora giggled as Mateo and Maya both picked theirs up at the same time, pulled the wrapper back, and leaned in simultaneously to take a bite.

Mateo’s eyes lit up, and Maya moaned quietly as she chewed, her eyes rolling back. After she swallowed, she said, “Man, that is delicious. Just like a chocolate malt.”

“I agree.”

“I’m going to get fat,” Maya joked.

Nora snickered. There was no way Mateo’s sister was ever going to get fat. Genetics was on her side.

Using a fork to get the perfect ratio of cake and blueberries, Nora slid the first bite into her mouth. It was just as amazing as always. Too bad it was the last one she would get to savor for a while.

Mateo lifted a napkin to her chin. “You dripped purple juice, Angel.”

“Thank you, Daddy,” Nora murmured before she thought to stop herself. So many people in town knew about her relationship with Mateo that she’d gotten a bit lax about hiding it at times, but she hadn’t blatantly exposed their kink to Mateo’s family. Her face turned red as she glanced at Mateo. “Oops.”

When she turned her attention to Maya, she found the woman smiling quizzically.

Maya leaned in closer, eyes widening. “I knew it.”

Nora gulped. Knew what?

Mateo clasped Nora’s hand as he looked at his sister. “What do you mean, Maya?”

Maya giggled. “Is half this town Little? It seems like everywhere I go I overhear someone calling their partner Daddy or Little girl. I suspected that included the two of you, but you’ve been so discreet at the restaurant.”

Nora slowly smiled and then she shrugged. Apparently Maya wasn’t bothered by the news. “It’s true. There are a lot of people in this town who practice some form of age play.”

“I’m sorry if we made you uncomfortable,” Mateo said.

“Oh, no. I’m fine. Don’t worry. I’m just glad to realize I’m not the only woman in the world who has thoughts of finding a Daddy who would wipe blueberry juice from my chin.” Her cheeks pinkened deeper as she looked down. “Maybe I didn’t need to say that in front of my brother.”

Mateo smiled broadly and patted his sister’s arm. “No need to be embarrassed. Nora and I have been kind of discreet so far, but we wouldn’t have kept our preferences a secret from the family forever. It’s too stressful always pretending.”

Maya shrugged. “I think Mom knows. She’s too polite to say anything, but I’ve seen her grinning when you two come through the restaurant being all cute.”

Mateo blew out a breath. “Well, that’s a relief.”

Maya sighed. “You two are so lucky. I’m way too shy to put myself out there and find a man, let alone a Daddy.”

Nora shook her head. “You’ll find the right man one of these days. I’m sure. I’ve come to realize there are a lot of Daddies in this town.”
