Where did that thought come from?

She set her hands on his shoulders to steady herself.

Wyatt’s thumbs moved, stroking through her slacks. “Have you ever met someone you immediately clicked with, and you just knew the relationship was important and special?”

She sucked in a breath and shook her head. The truth was she hadn’t dated very many people, and this was happening fast. There were things about her he didn’t know. She wasn’t ready to go there yet.

He smiled. “Well, that’s how I feel about you, Lark, and I hope you feel the spark between us, too.”

She licked her lips. “It’s not like we just met Friday. We met several times before.”

He grinned wider. “And I knew you were my Little girl that very first time I saw you.”

She gasped. “You did?”

He nodded. “Yes, kitten. I did.”

“I’m not even sure I am a Little, Wyatt. The thought has never occurred to me. I’ll admit I’m attracted to you, but I’m not sure I’m the sort of person you’re looking for.”

“Don’t worry. I’m sure enough for both of us, and that’s all that matters for now. I won’t rush you. In time, you’ll find yourself.”

She slid her hands from his shoulders to the buttons on the front of his shirt. “What if I don’t? What if I’m not Little? What if I’m not the right woman to occupy that blue room, Wyatt? You can’t buy a house on a whim just because the color of one room happens to match the eyes of a woman you’ve been on one date with and kissed only a few times.”

She gasped when his hands slid up higher to cup her butt, clenching her cheeks tight as another rush of arousal consumed her. Her legs were wobbly. If she weren’t leaning into him between his legs, she might have collapsed to the floor.

Wyatt held her gaze as he eased one of his hands up her back and under her hair. Cupping the back of her neck, he drew her face toward his. And then he was kissing her, tipping his head to one side to deepen the contact without warning.

Lark moaned into his mouth as he licked the seam of her lips, silently asking her to open for him. As soon as she did, he slid inside, stroking her tongue with his. It was hard to breathe or think or continue to support her weight. Every time he kissed her, she fell deeper under his spell.

There was something about him. She couldn’t put her finger on it, but there was indeed a powerful connection she felt deep inside. No, she’d never felt anything like this before, but she’d also never had the opportunity.

Flattening her palms on Wyatt’s chest, she melted against him. She couldn’t stop this thing that was happening between them.

The kiss went on for several minutes before Wyatt finally broke the connection. He set his forehead against hers, breathing heavily. “There. Now we’ve kissed yet again. You still want to argue we don’t have a spark, kitten?”

She shook her head slightly.

“As for your Little side, I know she’s in there. She just needs to be set free.” He gave her butt a squeeze that sent shivers down her spine. “I saw how you reacted to that blue room, Lark. Your eyes were wide with longing. You even reached out to stroke your fingers over the paint. Were you imagining what it would be like for that room to be yours, kitten?”

She hesitated. Had she been thinking that? She cleared her throat. “It’s probably just because I never had a pretty room like that when I was growing up.”

His eyes widened. “Why not?”

She glanced down to stare at his chest and shrugged. “My father didn’t believe children should be spoiled.”

“Spoiled.” Wyatt stiffened. “You mean with blue paint?” His brows furrowed in confusion.

She couldn’t blame him. “Or any other indulgence. He said children these days can’t appreciate their good fortune because their parents buy them everything and they don’t learn the value of a dollar.”

Wyatt swallowed, making Lark wish she hadn’t divulged so much information. Something about him made her feel like she could open up and share things she’d never shared with anyone. Not even Ellie.

When he spoke, his voice was soft. “No wonder you felt so drawn to the room. It’s not uncommon for adults who missed out on some aspect of their childhood to feel drawn to what they missed. Is blue your favorite color?”

She nodded.

“I noticed you have a cute little Eeyore for a keyring. Do you have other stuffies at home?”

Her face heated. She couldn’t lie to him. Eventually he would enter her house himself if things kept going the way they were, so it wouldn’t do any good to fib now. “Eeyore is my favorite. I have a collection. It’s not like I play with them or anything. I just keep them on a bookshelf.” Except for the large plush Eeyore on my bed.
