“When I took Karina to see Konstantin, yes.”

“That was an anomaly.”

“How about when we were in Nadia and Nicholas’s house? You slept then.”

“Another anomaly.” I close my eyes and lean my head against the window in a hopeless attempt to calm my raging hard-on. We only need to get this fucking shipment out of the way and then I’m fucking her to my heart’s content.

That barely offers my starving cock any consolation, though.

“Want me to help?” Her soft voice drifts through the car like a lullaby.

I like the way she speaks like a woman when it’s only the two of us. No matter how much she pretends to be a man on the outside, she completely loses that persona around me.

“Don’t waste your time. I’ve made peace with not being able to sleep. It’s better this way.”

“No, it’s not. It’ll affect you badly in the long run. Can I try something?”

“Be my guest.”

A gentle hand wraps around mine and lifts it up. I open my eyes as she lays my palm on her chest.

I grin. “Have you changed your mind? Should I start by giving your tits more attention?”

“No,” she says like a stern teacher.

“Then do you prefer to sit on my cock?”

“I said, no. Now, close your eyes and try to focus.”

“That’s hard to do that when all I can think about is twisting your little pink nipples.”

“You’re impossible.” She shakes her head. “Just do as I say.”

Begrudgingly, I close my eyes and lean back against the seat. “This is nothing short of a cocktease. If this doesn’t work, mark my words, I’ll fuck you.”

“It’s a deal. Now, focus on my heartbeat instead of your dirty thoughts. And, seriously, stop squeezing!”

“Fine.”

The beat beneath my fingers is calm, regular, and delicate, too.

Her breaths fan my ear and my nostrils flare.

“Are you sure this isn’t some sort of foreplay, because it’s only managing to get me hard.”

“Shh.” Her low voice slips through my ear, followed by a slow hum.

Then Sasha does something I would’ve never expected. She starts singing in a soft, melodic voice. The Russian lullaby mothers sing to their children filters through my ears and reaches a place I didn’t know existed inside me.

Her voice resembles a warm breeze on a freezing winter night. The strange pull calls for me like some enchanted instrument that’s snatching my physical being from the real world and transporting it to a mythical dimension.

Then, all of a sudden, the voice stops and I open my eyes to find Sasha shaking my shoulder. My hand that was on her chest is now on the seat beside me and she’s smiling. “It’s time to go. The shipment arrives fifteen minutes from now.”

I rub my eyes. “Why did they come early? We still have two hours.”

“No, we don’t.” A proud, wide smile covers her face. “You slept for about two hours. See? I told you I could help.”

Is this some sort of a fucking joke? I only closed my eyes for a minute.

I look at my watch and, sure enough, about two hours have passed.

Fuck me.

I fell asleep around her. Again.

I didn’t feel any-fucking-thing going on around me. Again.

Someone could’ve shot me during that time and I would have been none the wiser. She could’ve shot me, but she looks more proud about managing to put me to sleep with her soft fucking singing and some heartbeat magic.

I need to put an end to this situation before it gets any worse.

SASHA

“If it isn’t Kirill’s weak bodyguard.”

I straighten and turn around at the familiar deep voice and nod.

Damien studies me in that calculative way that always looks like he’s up to no good. He’s been constant about his intentions to fight Kirill, going as far as crashing dinners at the main house, announcing a fight to the death in front of the Pakhan, and everything in between.

He still hasn’t gotten the okay from Kirill, and while that would’ve made anyone else give up, that’s not the case for Damien.

If anything, he’s become even more insistent about getting what he considers is his ‘rightful fight.’

This morning, we’re at the Pakhan’s house for the weekly meeting, an occurrence that I heard Damien never gave a fuck about but has been attending religiously ever since his imaginary rivalry with Kirill started.

He came out of the meeting before everyone else, though, since he gets bored of these things, which is why he’s talking to me.

He retrieves a cigarette and stuffs it in his mouth, then lights it as he sizes me up. “Though you’re not as weak as when we first met. You training those muscles, Sasha?”

My lips part. How does he know that when I wear clothes that are a size too big?

After that two-hour nap in his car six months ago, Kirill abruptly stopped the one-on-one training sessions. But I’ve continued training every day, sometimes with Maksim and Yuri, sometimes alone.
