“The sweet butts.”

She pushed up onto one elbow and shoved his hand off her breast. “What the hell is a sweet butt?”

“A woman who belongs to the club.”

“Belongs?” Her eyes narrowed and she watched his expression carefully. “Like property?”

“Somethin’ like that.”

“And that’s it? She just belongs? Because you shouted at Reilly about her belonging to the club without putting out.”

“Reilly’s untouchable. Just like you. Can’t fuck her. Shouldn’t be fuckin’ you.”

“But you keep coming back for more.”

“And you keep lettin’ me.”

This whole scenario was messed up.

What happened to him hating her for being a cop? Had he forgotten he hated her because he’d been drinking or was stoned? Did he forget she was a cop only when she was naked?

Or had he thrown in the towel when it came to him getting her out of his system?

Maybe he expected this to become a regular hook-up instead of the occasional angry hate fuck she thought it was.

“I think you’re confused on the difference between breaking and entering and an invitation.”

“You haven’t shot me yet.”

Well, listen to him all proud of himself. “Not yet.”

“For not wantin’ me to enter you, you sure get wet and loud.”

“Like you, I sometimes make bad decisions.”

“Wouldn’t call what we did bad. It was pretty damn good.”

“I wouldn’t call what we’ve done,” she waved a hand over their naked bodies now covered in dried sweat, “smart, either.”

“Gonna agree with you on that point.”

“Well, miracle of all miracles. You agree with me for once.”

He grinned.

That damn cocky grin.

His head flopped to the mattress when she yanked the pillow from under his head and whacked him in the face with it.

“Hey!”

“Why are you still in my bed?” she demanded.

“‘Cause I wanna be.”

“Why?”

“Why fuckin’ not?”

“You hate me, remember?”

“Don’t hate your pussy.”

“Are you freaking serious?” She whacked him again, harder this time, as he attempted to protect his face with his arms.

“Yeah, no joke.”

“Fuck you,” she shouted.

“Already did.”

“You’re such an asshole.”

“That ain’t an insult, darlin’.”

“It should be.”

“But it ain’t.”

“I hate you.”

“You don’t hate me,” he scoffed.

“Don’t act like your cock is one of a kind. It isn’t. I can get dick just as good elsewhere.”

“But you don’t.”

“How do you know I don’t?”

When he rolled over her so unexpectedly, she froze. He yanked the pillow from her hands and tossed it to the side, and used his weight to pin her to the bed, his face barely inches from hers.

That handsome face now wore a hard, serious mask. “I’m fuckin’ you without a goddamn wrap, Jet. You better not be gettin’ dick elsewhere.”

She wiggled her finger in her ear. “I’m sorry, what? You want to repeat that?”

He dropped his face another inch and growled, “You better not be gettin’ dick elsewhere.”

“Uh… Have I been sucked into some alternative world? Did my orgasm teleport me to some other planet? Because I can’t be on Earth right now.”

“It wasn’t just one fuckin’ orgasm, tonight it was three and I’m totally fuckin’ serious.”

“You keep telling me you hate me,” she spouted in his face. “Since when does that make the sex we’re having—no,” she shook her head, “not having because that would mean it would continue—had become exclusive? How much pot did you smoke before coming here? A half pound since your brain is that baked?”

“Now you’re the asshole,” he muttered.

“And you’d be correct on that. We’ve had sex three times, Rook.” She held up three fingers and shoved them into his face. “Three. And each time you’ve forced yourself into my apartment to have it. That does not warrant any kind of exclusivity. And anyway, you were all over Lizzy earlier. So, where do you even get off telling me I’d better not be having sex with anyone else?” She shoved her palms into his chest but he didn’t even budge. She growled in frustration. “You can get the fuck off me any time now. You know where the door is. Make sure you lock it behind you.”

“Fuck you, Jet—”

“See? There you go.”

“I didn’t finish… Fuck you, darlin’, I’m not leavin’.”

“Why would you even want to stay?”

“I’ll admit, fuckin’ you the first time was a mistake. The second time, too. I’ll even throw in this third time. But the fourth time—”

“There won’t be a fourth time,” she said, cutting him off.

“The fourth time won’t be a mistake,” he finished.

“There won’t be a fourth time,” she repeated, “because you’re leaving and if you do break in here again, I will shoot your ass.”

“No, you won’t.”

“You want to bet?”

“Yeah. I wanna bet.”

She narrowed her eyes and growled at him. “I’m assuming Lizzy isn’t the only sweet butt,” she air-quoted the insulting term, “you boys have available. Am I correct?”

He jerked up one shoulder. “Yeah.”

She rolled her eyes. “Why does the club have them?”

“‘Cause we can.”

“That’s such a non-answer. By what you said to Reilly, I assume they cater to your every need.” She lifted one eyebrow to make her point. “Am I right?”
