Dodge also made her realize why sex hadn’t been so important to her.

Now… On only her second night with him, she could see why some people were obsessed with sex. Once you were with the right partner, things could change. And change quickly.

She had been missing out.

Not just with sex. But life in general.

Once she got Maya back, she would have to reevaluate her future and her goals.

Knowing she’d soon be reunited with her daughter gave her a sense of peace she hadn’t had in a long time.

She just hoped like hell it went smoothly. She wasn’t sure she could take any more heartbreak when it came to losing what she valued the most in life. Her daughter.

She might have been very young when she had Maya, but even so, the connection she felt when that little human was placed in her arms had been intense.

Especially after hearing her first soft cry. And during the bonding that occurred when she nursed her daughter.

The instinct to love and protect her had overwhelmed Syn.

That instinct hadn’t been hampered by how that baby came about. It didn’t matter who her biological father was. Nothing mattered except for Maya.

She closed her eyes for a second. A little over two weeks ago she had walked into a bar with her life in shambles and feeling like her life was no longer in her control.

Now her hope had returned stronger than ever.

A lot of that had to do with the man whose damp cheek was pressed to hers and whose warm breath swept over her heated skin, making every inch of her break out in goosebumps.

Simply looking at him made her heart flip upside down. In a good way. It also warmed her from head to toe. He heated her to her very core.

He made her think everything would turn out all right. That he’d be there for her every step of the way and support her when she needed it.

A sense of security she’d never had.

She didn’t want to ever let go of that feeling. She hoped she never had to.

It was crazy. All of it was just plain crazy. She knew it and didn’t care. It might be crazy but it felt right.

It seemed to be the same way for him.

He made it clear that he wanted her and not just in his bed tonight. He still wanted her knowing what happened to her and even after finding out she had a nine-year-old child.

“Promised you a third. I’m waitin’ on you so I can get mine.”

She opened her eyes and looked directly into his dark brown ones. She slowly blew out a breath.

“Thank you,” she whispered.

His eyebrows pulled together. “For what?”

“For everything.”

“Didn’t do everythin’ yet.”

She cupped his cheek. “I know. But just knowing you want to give me everything…” She swallowed past the tightness in her throat. The tightness wasn’t from his hand—he’d kept his grip super loose tonight—it was from those rising emotions she’d kept tamped deep down inside.

She couldn’t believe it hadn’t even been twelve hours since Rex drove their skoolie back onto that farm. So much had happened since then.

So much was about to happen.

Including another orgasm.

He promised her a third, he delivered on that promise.

Chapter Twenty-One

He was asleep on his stomach, snoring softly, with one arm thrown heavily over her waist. Most likely so he’d wake up if she tried to escape the bed.

But she didn’t want to escape. Right now, she was perfectly fine with where she was.

They’d been snowed in for two days. During that time, her emotions had flip-flopped back and forth.

While she was anxious to go get Maya, she was also content to spend some alone time with Dodge. Being stuck at Pete’s, temporarily shut down due to the storm, meant she didn’t have to share him with anyone.

That would quickly change once they retrieved her daughter because it might be a while before Syn let Maya get farther away from her than within hearing distance.

She had no idea where they’d end up living. Or how she’d manage raising her when The Synners hit the road.

Because they would need to hit the road again. And soon. It was her only source of income, even as bad as it was.

Even if they played regularly at Pete’s, it wouldn’t be enough to live on. Or pay rent. Or buy Maya school clothes and supplies.

Once Maya was back in her possession, so many arrangements would need to be made. It was too much to think about all at once. All of it was so damn overwhelming.

When she’d begin to fret, Dodge would ask her what was bothering her and she didn’t hesitate to tell him.

He had insisted she always be open with him and he’d do the same. Better yet, he wanted to work out problems together instead of her trying to do it by herself in her head.
