“You don’t wanna tell her the truth?” That surprised Easy. From what he understood, Shade’s ol’ lady knew more about his past than anyone. Even Easy.

Shade shifted his gaze from where he’d been keeping an eye on the office door behind which Cassie was working, to him. His silent stare was answer enough.

“Sure you wanna lie to her?” That was never a good fucking idea when it came to the sisterhood. With them, it was best to always confess before you got caught.

“Ain’t gonna lie. Just not gonna tell her ’til afterward. Just like the plans we made to deal with the Shirleys. Don’t wanna worry her. Once it’s done…” Shade shrugged.

So, like with the Shirleys, Shade was going with the notion that it was better to ask for forgiveness than permission.

“Once it’s done, the risk will be over,” Easy finished for him. He understood that. Only too well. “But she’s still gonna be pissed about it.”

“Maybe.”

There was no maybe about it. Especially with what Shade had planned for the man who organized and paid for the kidnapping of both Shade and his mother. Especially when the motherfucker knew that the mother of his child and his own damn son would be sold into sex trafficking.

Knew it and did it anyway. To get rid of the “evidence” that he’d been cheating on his wife and family. And the proof he created a whole other family.

Shade’s father didn’t want to pay the price for sticking his dick where it didn’t belong.

Christ. That sounded way too fucking familiar.

“Chelle know you’ve been searchin’ for him all this time?”

“No.”

“She helped you find your mom.” Not that the man needed that reminder. His mom’s ashes were on the fireplace mantle in his house. He was one of the few Fury members who did not live on the farm.

Did Trip like it? Fuck no. Did the prez accept it? Reluctantly.

“Was lookin’ for her for a different reason.”

“She knows your secrets better than anyone, brother,” Easy reminded him, tipping his head toward Shade’s wide black leather cuff.

“She don’t know them all.”

Nobody knew all of Easy’s secrets, either. Not even Shade.

Especially that very warm, living, breathing secret that slipped into his room in the dead of night.

But from the moment Easy learned about Shade’s father, he was determined to help exact revenge on that soulless motherfucker. “Got the perfect excuse to give your ol’ lady.”

Shade lifted one eyebrow, waiting to hear it.

“Nico’s buyin’ my old sled.”

“Yeah?”

“He wants to prospect. He approached Trip already but, of course, the prez won’t even consider bringin’ it before the officers ’til the guy has a sled.”

“You do that, what the fuck you gonna ride?”

Easy smiled, slid his cell phone free from his back pocket and pulled up a picture to show him. “Gonna buy this badass Street 750. A 2019 model, too.”

Shade snagged the phone from his fingers and swiped through a few of the photos the seller sent him. “You got the scratch for that?”

“I will once I sell my hog to Nico. That’ll put me over what I need.”

Shade handed him the phone back. “What’s this gotta do with my plan?”

Easy smiled. “Goin’ with me to pick it up’s a good excuse to give Chelle.”

Shade’s dark eyes locked with his and Easy could see his wheels turning. Finally he asked, “Where’s it at?”

“Jersey.”

Shade grimaced. “Guess were goin’ to Jersey by the way of Baltimore, then.”

“But you don’t got a definite bead on good ol’ Dad, do you? You said you were gettin’ close.”

“Soon will have an exact fuckin’ target,” Shade answered.

“How?”

“Remember Hunter?”

“Uh, yeah. Those fuckin’ Shadows are hard to fuckin’ forget.” They were also impressive as fuck. They expertly pulled off what the Fury couldn’t when it came to the Shirleys.

And thank fuck for that. The brotherhood, the sisterhood—hell, everybody—was now breathing a lot easier. Hopefully that would continue as long as nothing pointed back to the Fury when it came to a whole clan’s compound exploding to smithereens about a week ago. When it did, it took all of the male Shirleys up on that mountain along with it.

So far, the ATF or the FBI hadn’t knocked on the Fury’s door. Though, Max Bryson had quite a few words with Trip the other day when the prez stopped in at the pig pen to notify them of a repo he was doing within the MGPD’s jurisdiction. A requirement Trip hated.

But mostly the chief was only feeling out the prez, hoping he’d slip up. Trip didn’t. Jet was also keeping an ear to the ground when it came to her pig family. This way the club could be ahead of the game if any suspicions arose.

Like how every structure on that mountain went kaboom not long before all the members of the Fury started arriving at Pete’s that night for Whip’s birthday party.
