“The fucking waste of human fucking shit, asshole, bastard, evil, disgusting little prick.” The words and insults kept spilling from his lips.

Seconds passed, and they must have turned into minutes. By the time he was finished, his office looked terrible, and his two brothers stood playing a game on their cell phones.

He ran fingers through his hair, and then ran his hands down the lapel of his jacket, took a deep breath, and calmed down.

“Are you done?” Connor asked.

“Nah, let him trash the place some more. I’ve got a new high score,” Reese said.

“I don’t have time for jokes,” Mason said.

“You can’t go and ask him if he has this girl,” Connor said.

“Why not?” This came from Reese.

Mason looked at his youngest brother. “Because he will know I’ve had a meeting with Albert Delcoties, and then we’re in fucking shit.”

“And you don’t think he already knows?”

“I want to hope he doesn’t know,” Mason said. He couldn’t reach out to the Dentons. This was something he was going to have to deal with himself. “I want both of you to go and check his usual spots. Call me if you find her, and free whomever he has. You know the drill. Just don’t get caught.”

Leaving his office, he ignored the mess and spent the rest of the day checking out the other places his brothers wouldn’t think to look. He started at his father’s penthouse suite. He knew the codes to get in, and he also knew his father didn’t have any cameras in his penthouse, for fear of those videos getting into the wrong hands.

Paul Savonas didn’t trust easily, but there were risks he was willing to take. His penthouse suite was clear, as was the hotel he liked to frequent, and three brothels that were also well-known to Paul.

No sign of Candice.

By the end of the day, Connor and Reese didn’t have a clue either. He put a call in to Albert, promising to locate the girl, then he had no choice but to head home. He also didn’t like that his father was nowhere to be seen.

On entering his home, he should have known. If he hadn’t caught Paul or his brothers, then it meant he was at his home.

He looked in the dining room to see David, their gardener, was present, as well as his own father. Anger rolled through him.

“Honey,” Tamsin said, getting to her feet and rushing toward him.

“How long has he been here?” he asked, whispering against her ear.

“An hour.”

He didn’t like this.

“Ah, my son, it is good of you to join us. I was hoping to enjoy a lovely meal with you both, but seeing as you were not here, Tamsin invited David for dinner.”

Mason looked toward David and nodded his head toward the gardener. He had asked him many months ago that if his father was ever around without him, to stay with Tamsin, keep her company, protect her.

His father hated David, and they had a past. Mason would protect everyone here from his father.

Taking hold of Tamsin’s hand, he made sure he took the head of the table, and he looked down toward his father. “It’s a pleasure for you to join us,” he said, even though it was the last thing he actually thought.

Chapter Twelve

At the end of dinner, Paul Savonas left and Mason showed David to a guest bedroom. It was too late for him to drive.

Tamsin took a long hot shower, and she stepped into the bedroom to find Mason on the edge of the bed, removing his shoes. He’d already taken off his jacket, and he looked tired. Gone was the façade he had at the table. She’d been surprised at how well he’d been able to keep a conversation going. Now that it was just the two of them, he looked tired.

“Do you want to tell me what’s going on?” she asked.

Mason let out a breath.

“Don’t lie either.”

“Some lies help to protect you from everything that’s happening.”

She shook her head. “I don’t believe that. Some lies may cover up stuff like that, but it’s still a lie, and it doesn’t help anyone.” She went to him, even though she was still in a towel and sex was the last thing on her mind. She put her hands on his knees and looked up at him. “You can talk to me. You know that, right?”

He cupped her cheek and sighed. “Let me go take a shower. I’ll let you get comfortable.”

“If you think I’m going to fall asleep, you’re mistaken.”

Mason smiled. “I know there is no easy way to keep things from you.” He stroked her cheek and then leaned down and kissed her.

This wasn’t a passionate kiss, but a strange one. It almost felt like it was full of need, but not for sex, for something else.
