He finished off his drink in just a few sips, and then it was back to work.

Chapter Seven

Completely naked and sated with Mason’s arms wrapped around her, Tamsin couldn’t help but smile. They had a busy day with potatoes, and for fun she got the chef to cook them some pasta. Mason had loved it. David had also come for dinner. She saw Mason relax in the other man’s company, and it had been so wonderful.

“You’re smiling,” he said, kissing her neck.

“Today was a good day.”

“Yes, but I think I can still smell soil, and it’s never going away.”

This did make her chuckle. She lifted his fingers and pretended to look at his nails. “Did you scrub your hands properly?”

“Vixen, you know I did.”

She squealed as he nibbled on her neck. It felt so good, and the pleasure went straight between her thighs. She didn’t want him to stop.

His arms tightened around her, and she couldn’t resist wriggling her ass against him. They had yet to have sex. Tamsin had been trying to avoid the books, because they didn’t help when it came to her curiosity. She wanted to know everything, and Mason’s dick mesmerized her. She wanted to have sex with him, and she didn’t quite know how to express those feelings without sounding desperate. It was a struggle, but she knew she would get there at some point.

“Tamsin, have you thought about talking to your brothers?”

Now, this did make her tense. Her brothers were not the men she wanted to think about while she had her husband close to naked beside her, and she was thinking about sex.

“Why?” she asked.

“They’re your family.”

“You’re my family now.”

He tightened his hold around her and kissed her neck again. Only this time, it didn’t feel as good as it did a few moments ago. “I know how important family is.”

Tamsin didn’t want to have this conversation, facing away from him. She pulled out of his arms and reached over to turn on the light, casting the bedroom in a warm glow, and then she turned to look at him.

Mason blinked a few times, and then sighed. “You look pissed.”

“I’m not. I just … where is this coming from? Has Jacob been in touch? Have any of them been in touch?”

“No.”

“Then why do you have to even mention them?” she asked.

“They’re your brothers.”

She took a deep breath. “So?”

“You’re not alone, babe.”

“I know that.”

Mason sat up and he sighed. “I get that you’re angry with them. Your father tied their hands. He messed with everything, and your brothers are only doing what they can for the family name and to survive.”

She rubbed at her temples. “I don’t know where this is coming from.”

Mason reached out and took her hand in his. “I was talking to David today, and he was reminding me of what my grandfather was like. He also talked about you.”

“Me?”

“Yes. You come from a large family. I only have two brothers, and I know that is more than most, but you were close to your brothers.”

Tamsin pressed her lips together.

“I guess, with everything going on, I didn’t think about you losing them. I want you to know, Tamsin, you can be married to me and still be with your brothers.”

“I know that,” Tamsin said. “I’m not ready to … see them.”

“You’re angry at them?”

“Yes, no, I don’t know how I feel about them.” She shrugged. “I don’t know if I’m ever going to willingly see them again. Everything is messed up, and to be honest, they all cared about their own thing.” She blew out a breath. “Can we not talk about this?”

It was easier to not think about her family. Yes, she still loved her brothers and her sisters-in-law, as well as all her nieces and nephews. The Denton name was always expanding. Just because she still loved them didn’t mean she had to like them. She didn’t agree with anything they had done.

They hadn’t been able to solve Landon’s problem, and that was why he had a new identity, and was all alone in the world. Admittedly, with his chosen woman, but that was beside the point. He was still alone.

She ran fingers through her hair, and any temptation she had was gone.

“I need a shower.”

Tamsin pulled away from the bed and padded toward the bathroom without a backward glance.

She went straight to the shower, switching it on. Removing her clothes, she stepped inside, tilted her head back, and allowed the spray to run down and all over her face. It was nice and warm. Just the right temperature. It felt good, and for a few seconds, she stopped thinking about her family.

Jacob, Abel, Oliver, Gideon, Damon, Landon, and of course Gabriel. He’d not been her brother for very long, but he was still her brother. Half or otherwise. She had agreed to all of Mason’s terms to help them.
