She rolled her eyes. “You know I am.”

Her face did feel warm, and it didn’t take a genius to figure out why. They had opened the curtains and sunlight and warmth filtered into the bedroom. After Mason licked her pussy last night, he had stripped his clothes and wore only a pair of boxer briefs, and he held her as she fell asleep. It had been perfect.

For two years, she had slept fitfully, always afraid of what was going to happen. If Mason would change his mind, or if Paul would find some way to get to her. Last night was the first night she had slept well.

“I do love that smile on your face, Mrs. Savonas.”

Tamsin laughed. She reached for a piece of strawberry and popped it into her mouth, chewing it.

“So, what would you like to do today?” he asked.

“Me?”

“I don’t see anyone else in here.”

Tamsin smiled. “Don’t you have work to attend to?”

“Actually, I think I’d like to spend the day with my wife.”

She nibbled her lip and glanced down at the two trays of food.

“What is it?” Mason asked.

“It’s nothing. It’s not something big. Just, you know, I promised David I would help him harvest the peas today, and we were going to plant some cabbages for over the winter, and stuff.”

“Ah, so it’s gardening today?”

She rolled her eyes. “Yes, it’s gardening.” She gave a chuckle. “Which is why you don’t have to stay. Trust me, I know gardening is not for everyone and I will not force you to do anything you don’t want to do.”

Mason shrugged. “I can garden.”

“You can?”

“I guess we’re both going to have to see, aren’t we?”

And so, after breakfast, Tamsin had no choice but to make her way to her bedroom to change into a pair of old jeans and a shirt. Mason was already waiting for her, and he surprised her by also having a pair of jeans and a shirt on.

Even in old-looking clothes, he still appeared sexy. She had pinned her hair on top of her head, and together they walked out into the garden.

She found David at the vegetable patch with several baskets ready, already picking at the beans and peas.

“Tamsin and Mason, reporting for duty,” she said.

David looked at her, then toward Mason. “Sir.” He nodded his head.

She glanced over at Mason, but she didn’t see what he did back to David. There was no animosity between the two men.

“I’ve got it from here if you would like to go and enjoy your day,” David said.

“Nope, I’ve already told Mason I promised I would help you, and here I am. Ready to help where you need me to.” She stood at attention.

She didn’t know if Mason had anything more exciting planned or not.

David set them to task. There were several rows of beans and peas. Each of them took a separate row.

As they worked throughout the morning, Tamsin couldn’t help but feel like Mason’s gaze was upon her. Whenever she looked behind her, she saw him through the bushes, and his gaze was right there. Every now and then, she was pretty sure he winked at her, and she couldn’t help but feel the rush his attention was giving her.

Can you trust it?

You know he is only after one thing.

He needs you to get pregnant.

Partway through the beans, Mason’s cell phone wouldn’t stop ringing, so he excused himself, moving a few feet away to take the call.

She knew he was always busy. He probably didn’t have the time to spend all day with her, gardening.

“It’s good to see both of you together,” David said, startling her.

She had slowed down in her picking, and in doing so, gave David the opportunity to catch up.

“Do you think so?”

“Yes. As a married couple, you’ve spent way too much time apart. I am not one to pry or meddle, but I figure arranged marriages are not for everyone.”

“I guess not.”

“You and Mason deserve to be happy.”

In the two years she’d known David, they had never delved into talking about Mason, or how well David knew him.

“You know him quite well?” Tamsin asked.

“I have known him a long time. I have lived with him and served him since he moved here ten years ago. Close to your age now.”

“Mason already had this place when he was my age?” Tamsin asked.

“Ah, yes, his grandfather held a special place for all his grandsons. This was once his grandfather’s house.”

“I had no idea,” Tamsin said.

“Forgive me, but it didn’t seem that you and Mason … got along.”

The years of being a Denton kept her silent. Secrets were best kept to themselves. Her family had taught her that.

“Mason is a good man. Much better than his father. This house going to him caused him a great deal of problems. His father is not a good man, and has made life hard for Mason.”
