She’s glowing like the world’s most precious diamond. Like an angel come down to Earth just for me. Now I understand all those romantic love poems we were forced to read in school that I always rolled my eyes at.

“That’s right,” I reply. “You’re mine now. I own you.”

Lucy’s face shifts as the realization of what I’ve done hits her. Her cute little lips part as her jaw drops. Her gorgeous eyes widen, and it’s as if I’m staring directly into her soul. I run my hand up her waist, caressing her soft skin until my hand reaches her breast.

“Tell me, Lucy. Tell me you understand what I’ve done.”

“I…I understand, sir.”

There it is again. Sir. I smile.

“And who do you belong to now, Lucy?” I ask. “Is it Eric or some boy at your school? Or is it…”

Lucy shakes her head.

“No, sir. I belong to you.”

Her words fill me with the greatest joy I could imagine. I’ve done it. I’ve made the decision, and wherever that decision takes me, there’s no going back now. But I don’t care because Lucy will be with me.

I lean in and kiss her plump, pink lips and brush back her hair.

“You’re damn right, baby.”

“That’s a hole-in-one right there!” Dougie turns to me and cracks a smile after he finishes his swing and his ball soars down to the last marker on the range. He and I have come out today to hit a bucket of golf balls, and although I should be in a great mood after my first real day of work has ended, I’m feeling nothing but nervous around my old pal. And to be honest, I’m not sure if I’m doing a good job hiding it either.

“Yeah, that’s a nice one.” I grin back, setting up my next shot.

“Say, what’s up with you today, buddy?” Dougie asks.

“What do you mean?”

“You get a lobotomy last night or something?” he chuckles. “You take some sedatives this morning?”

Yup, doing a bad job hiding it. I knew it.

Ever since that night in the woods with his daughter, I’ve felt nothing but guilt being around him.

Does that mean I regret what I did with Lucy? Hell no. It was the most incredible experience of my life, and I can’t keep her off my mind every second of the day, but when I’m around her dad, I just can’t shake off the feelings of guilt that hang over me like an ice cold blanket.

“Nah, it’s just this new job, ya know? No longer being in the military and—”

“Whoa, they hired you?” Dougie asks, surprised. I guess with my mind on other things, I must have forgotten to tell him that I actually got the job.

“Yeah, they hired me. First official day was today.” I take my swing and shank my shot hard left and off into the net. Yeah, my mind is definitely somewhere else.

“That’s great, buddy!” Dougie sounds genuinely happy for me, which I know he is. “What do you say that after these buckets, we hit the bar and celebrate with a few drinks?”

Regardless of what’s happening behind the scenes, my and Dougie’s friendship is still intact, and I’m not about to do anything to jeopardize that.

“Who could say no to that?” I ask.

It’s done.

There’s no taking it back now, and I wouldn’t even if I could. But as I sit there at the bar, waiting for Dougie to get back from the bathroom, that’s all I can think about.

Lucy.

I wonder what she’s doing now. Is she back home painting? Probably wearing something comfortable like a pair of flannel pajamas and a baggy T-shirt, but I’m picturing her in lace panties that barely cover that perfect ass of hers and not even wearing a top.

Why? Because I’m unstoppable. Because my lust for her is overpowering. Because I have to grab my leg and dig my fingers in hard just to stop from getting aroused while I’m out with her fucking father.

Christ, what is wrong with me?

“Shit, you should see their bathrooms, man,” Dougie says, coming up and taking his seat behind me. “The door is like a goblin’s mouth, and there’s one massive urinal with teeth for dividers like it’s always Halloween. Creepy shit.”

“I thought you liked Halloween.”

“Sure,” he replies, taking a sip of his whiskey sour. “But not all the time.”

I chuckle and take another taste of my Rob Roy, something new I’m trying tonight. It’s not bad, but I probably won’t order it again.

“So this new job. You like it?” he asks.

“It’s okay.” I shrug. “They’re a lot more uptight than they need to be. I don’t think they’re in any real danger, but they’ve got a lot more security than necessary. But if they want to hire me…”

“Then who are you to argue?” Dougie laughs.

“Precisely,” I laugh back.

Dougie asks me more questions about work, which I answer robotically. To be honest, I like the job, but I don’t love it, and as I’m talking to him about that, my mind is on…something else.
