“D for Daisy!” she shouts, pointing to the D on the alphabet, excitement spilling from her.

“That’s right, clever girl,” I say, kissing her blond head. “Can you find the M for mommy?”

Daisy sticks her tongue out in concentration as she examines the alphabet like she’s studying for a test and not just learning the letters. She takes learning as seriously as I do, and it thrills me to be able to teach my own daughter the things I’ve been teaching my kindergarteners.

While she’s finding the letter, Damien and Dakota, our three-year-old, saunter into the living room.

“Hey, darling,” Damien says, kissing Daisy on the cheek as he comes closer. Dakota holds her arms out, and I take her, plopping her on my lap as Daisy finds the C and shows her father how clever she is.

“Just like your mommy,” Damien praises, making me and Daisy grin.

“I’m bored!” Dakota exclaims, wriggling. She never sits still, preferring to explore every inch of the world rather than sit at a table to learn, and I love her wild attitude. She reminds me of her father, always wanting adventure.

Damien chuckles, shaking his head. “What do you want to do, angel?” he asks, full of patience for our children as always.

I knew he’d be a good father, but he’s truly excellent to the girls. He thrives on taking care of us all, on making sure none of us want for anything.

I love him so much it consumes me, and I don’t want it any other way.

“I want to see an elephant,” Dakota declares, and her sister laughs.

“There’s no elephants here,” Daisy explains in a tone that says obviously.

Dakota pouts. “But it’s my favorite animal!” she complains, her blond brows furrowing as she huffs.

I intervene before the girls can argue. “Well, baby, maybe we can go to the zoo this weekend and see one there?”

“Or,” Damien says, in a tone I’ve come to learn means he’s about to go way over the top, “we could go see them in the wild?”

I gape at him. “Damien—”

He grins, and damn if my heart doesn’t flutter. “If my baby wants to go see elephants, then we go see elephants,” he says like it’s the simplest thing in the world.

“Ooh, monkeys, too?” Daisy pipes up, eyes alight with excitement.

“Monkeys too, clever girl,” Damien agrees.

I can’t stop gaping at him, but before I can say anything, my husband scoops our daughter off my lap and says, “Go pack, gorgeous. I’ll call and get the jet ready.”

I know him too well by now to think he’s joking. He’s serious.

“We’re really going to go on a safari, just like that?” I ask, still in disbelief despite the fact I know he’s not joking.

“Yup,” he says, winking at me. “Haven’t you realized by now that there’s no length too far to go for you and our children?”

I have no argument for that because he’s proven that there isn’t over and over again. He’s proven that he’d do anything for us. There’s no limit. A spontaneous safari is honestly right in Damien’s wheelhouse.

I stand up, shaking my head at Damien. “You’re crazy,” I murmur, but the words are good-natured and full of happiness.

Damien dips his head and kisses me softly. “You love me like that,” he says.

And damn, I really do.
