“I’m not doing a fucking day for him Jake so don’t even fucking start.” Jake I know, he understands the creed. I can take my chances with him because I know if it were his woman or one of his kids he’d do the fucking same.
He clapped me on the shoulder and we headed back towards the others. Blade gave us both the once over as soon as we came into view and went back to hogtieing the assholes that we’d found hiding out up here, at least the ones that hadn’t escaped.
“You done?” Law asked as I came back into the clearing. I nodded and kept moving, my only interest in getting the fuck down off the mountain and back to her. “Torch it.” Law again gave the order and the night sky went up in flames.
An old man, supposedly the leader of the hate brigade was making noise about calling the sheriff until Jake whispered something in his ear. That shit seemed to quiet him down and the rest of us headed down the mountain. I’ll let Law and his crew, deal with the locals. I’m done.
We all gathered in Law’s yard after he’d done something with the prisoners. We’d worked off some steam, but we all knew we had barely scratched the surface. It was a given that we weren’t done.
“What now? I have to get home to my woman.” Lyon was the first to break the silence.
“Well, we still have a shitload of work to do on our end. Stockton I’m guessing wasn’t a font of information?” Lo looked at Ty and Lyon, neither of which was looking too guilty.
“And this shit is in Georgia you say? I guess I could pack up the wife and kids for a little road trip. Just a heads-up, I’m giving you all one week to come up with some kinda plan or I’m heading to the desert. Law give these boys my number, I gotta go.” He walked away with his boys and the Travis dude like he hadn’t just done whatever the fuck it was that I was pretty sure he’d done.
“Would he really go after the Porters?” Logan asked Law and I as we watched Lyon and his crew head out in the dead of night.
“He’s already halfway there brother. If we don’t want him to handle this shit his way we’d better get the fuck on and quick. We still got those kids to find.” Fuck, the sheer volume of it was starting to give me a headache.
Cord, who was the only one not to join us on the raid joined us now. Apparently he had stayed back to keep watch over the women, especially his who had been featured. From what little I’d gathered he hadn’t quite made her his yet, but I’m pretty sure it won’t be long now, not the way he’s been sniffing around her since they got here.
“You get anything out of him?” He asked his brothers in arms, who pretty much shook their heads no.
“Then we’ve got work.” He turned and headed back the way he’d came. Talkative motherfucker.
Epilogue
Cord
I watched over her as she slept with my heart in turmoil. How had we missed it? How had we not put it together? We’d only just received the results of her parentage the day before, but somehow it appeared the Fox had known all along. How?
She was even more precious to me now because of the blood that ran through her veins. She was a part of the man who had shaped me and whatever I’d felt for her before was multiplied because of that fact.
We’d terminated Stockton, or Ty and his new pal had. I found a smile at the thought of our new partner in crime. For someone who’d never served Lyon sure was a militant fuck. But I won’t be the one to tell him that since he tends to take umbrage whenever we mention it.
We had formed a tight bond in the days we’d been there at Law’s and that was good. Instead of just us we now had a whole network of brothers joined together to deal with what had become more than our little headache.
We’d found out a lot more in the last few days since coming back home. More than we’d known even with all our connections and the technology we had at our fingertips. Travis’ dad the mobster was a font of information and a very funny guy, for someone who’d been running his own crime syndicate for over four decades.
They were all headed this way in a few weeks once they’d taken care of their own shit. It seems they were all interested in putting an end to whatever the fuck was going on here.
We’d put Stockton’s place on lock down after running his men out of town. Lo had used his connection to the old man to pull that one off. All we needed now was to spread a net and catch who the fuck ever was involved.
