“It’s just... it’s so much tighter than I remember,” I sob out to him. It’s not that I care that I may have gained weight. I’ve learned that my cowboy loves all my curves. He adores them, and his confidence in my body has me feeling beautiful in my skin every day. It’s just that I was really looking forward to this event, and I can’t believe it got so much tighter around the chest and stomach.

“I know I got the measurements right,” I sob.

“Well, let me see what we’re working with here.” He reaches for the corset and gives it a tug.

“I just had this last fitting a few weeks ago. I shouldn’t have...” My voice trails off.

I start mentally calculating things. Noah and I have been so busy at the bookshop, helping Mrs. Maple around the farm and candle shop, that I haven’t been paying as much attention to my body as usual. Now that I’m thinking it over, I’m pretty sure I’ve skipped my last two periods. “Wait... you don’t think...”

“I think it must have been the measurements weren’t quite right,” Noah says quietly, clearly not following my line of thinking.

I shake my head. “I think... well, it’s just that I haven’t had my period in about two months.”

He immediately stops tugging on the corset and gazes down at me with wide eyes. “No, no, no. You had... that was what, two, three months ago,” he says. “I mean, you were craving chocolate and everything.”

“I have some tests in the bathroom.” Even though I say the words, my feet won’t work. They’re glued to the floor.

Noah puts his hands on my shoulders. “Whatever happens, Lizzy, it will be OK. We’ll face it together. We always have. We always will.”

I blow out a breath. I don’t want him thinking that I’m upset. “I’m scared because I really, really want this.”

“And it will happen for us,” he quietly reassures me. “Whether it’s today or tomorrow, or five years from now, eventually we’re going to have a family of our own.”

He follows me to the bathroom, but I make him wait outside the door while I pee on the stick. When I’m done, we wait for the countdown on my phone to ding and let us know if our lives have forever changed.

“I want a daughter,” Noah says quietly, “a girl with your laugh. You have the sweetest giggle.”

I take his hand in mine, threading our fingers together, needing his solid and steady presence. “I want a boy with your heart. One who lights up the whole room when he walks into it, just like you do.”

The phone dings, and I squeeze his hand. “Just tell me.”

He stands and crosses to the counter, glancing at the results. “Bad news, Lizzy. It looks like you won’t be fitting into that corset for a few more months.”

I burst out in happy laughter. “Are you serious?”

He holds up the test, waving it in front of me. A little pink line confirms it. “We’re having a baby!”

I throw myself into his arms, squealing and laughing as he spins me around. I’m so excited to start a family with the man I love. I’m so grateful for the gruff cowboy who didn’t give up on me. He promised he would never, ever let me go. I know he’ll love our children just as fiercely. Together, we’re going to raise more little cowboys and bookworms. Our life couldn’t be more perfect.
