This man was going to break my heart.

And there was nothing I could do about it.

I melted into him despite knowing that. The kiss became deeper with his tongue seeking out mine, and our bodies got closer and closer until my hands were sliding up his chest and his were moving down my back, until there was no longer a breath of air between us.

His kiss was utterly addictive, and every part of me knew it, too. My heart was thudding a rapid beat as my head whispered to me to stop, that this was a mistake, that this was crossing a line that could never be uncrossed.

That this was wiping out the line entirely.

But I didn’t care.

For the first time in my life, I didn’t listen to my head.

I let my foolish heart dictate my actions. I let my hormones decide that it was a good idea to run my fingers through his hair and graze my teeth across his lower lip, to press my body as firmly against his as I could.

He felt it, too. His cock was hard and pressing against my lower stomach, brushing my hip, and Max slid his hand down and squeezed my arse, pulling me even closer.

Heat flushed through my body. It was a rich lust like nothing I’d ever felt, and heat pooled between my legs, centring on my clit, and the mildly uncomfortable, needy ache that throbbed deep in my belly had me fisting his shirt in desperation.

He was doing crazy things to me, and my God, I wanted him to do more. To kiss more than just my mouth. To grip my arse as tightly as he was while there was nothing between us—no space, no fabric, no nothing.

I wanted to rip his bloody clothes off and let him bend me over a window seat to fuck me senseless.

That fantasy was getting out of control.

“Oh, my!”

The sound of my brother’s voice jolted me out of the moment, and Max and I split apart as if a firework was physically lit between us.

Kev raised his eyebrows and looked at me with a glimmer in his eye. “Should I come back later?”

I flushed red hot from head to toe. It was the worst mixture of horniness and embarrassment I’d ever felt in my entire life, and I almost felt as though I was going to throw up.

No, it wasn’t an almost.

I was going to throw up.

“I can explain,” I said quickly, flattening my hands against my body.

Kev looked Max up and down appreciatively. “I was hoping you’d say that.”

Max cleared his throat and looked at me, confused.

My eyes widened. “Oh, um, this is my brother. Kevin.” I waved my hand uncomfortable. “Kevin, this is Max.”

Kev smirked. “And who is Max?”

“Shut up or I’m sending you home,” I snapped.

Max coughed and took a step forwards. “I think I’ll leave you to it,” he said, catching my eye. “Kevin, it was nice to meet you.” He held out his hand.

Kevin looked at it. “With all due respect, you’ve just been groping my sister.”

Oh, my God.

“I’m not touching that.”

Max grimaced. “You could have knocked.”

“I could have, but then I’d have missed that juicy bit of gossip. If your ears burn, it’s just me making her talk about you all night.”

“He’s crazy,” I mouthed to Max, doing the finger-twist by my ear. You know, the universal sign for crazy.

My brother shot me a look that said he didn’t appreciate that, but I didn’t care. I didn’t appreciate him barging in here when I was getting turned on faster than Blackpool Illuminations.

Max glanced at me one more time before quickly making an exit, and the moment the door shut behind him, I turned on Kevin.

“What the hell?” I asked, throwing my hands out to my sides. “What’s wrong with you? One, you were supposed to let me know when you were almost here, and two, you can’t just barge in here! I could have been doing anything!”

His lips curved into a slick smile. “You were, though, weren’t you?”

“Shut up!” I grabbed a cushion from the sofa and launched it across the room at him. “Kevin! Do you have any idea how long it’s been since I had sex? Good sex?”

“Three years, ten months, one week, and six days.”

Probably.

“I could have ended that drought tonight! I could be on that sofa with a duke’s face between my legs right now if you hadn’t bounced in here like bloody Tigger!” I jabbed my finger in the direction of the sofa to punctuate my point.

“Oh, he’s the duke? Well, bugger me backwards.”

“Kevin!”

“You do a wonderful Catherine O’Hara impression.”

“I swear to God—” I walked around the tables towards him then stopped and took a deep breath.

“Hey, don’t blame me. I didn’t expect you to be in here snogging a duke, did I?” Kev finally shrugged off his jacket. “Is he single?”
