True that. “So, do I have your approval?”

“Yeah. You approach her and I’ll approach my supervisor on getting her on the books for providing info.”

Finn nodded. He now needed to formulate a plan on how to approach her with this idea. He preferred to ease her into it instead of simply throwing it at her feet and hoping she’d agree.

Crew interrupted his thoughts. “We ready to ride?”

“Not yet. I’ve got one more thing to run by you first.”

“I already said that if she agrees with becoming a CI, you can stop dancing with the Peckers.”

“No shit. That isn’t it. I have another idea.”

“Then spill it so we can get the fuck out of here.”

“I’ve been thinking about this since last night’s dinner… I’m going to propose—”

“Already? Congrats!” Crew yelled. “You move quick!”

Finn grimaced. “You’re such an asshole.”

“I assume you repeat that to yourself every time you look in the mirror?”

“I’m pretty fucking sure your ex was repeating that when she cut your head out of all your wedding pictures.” He blew out a breath. “Anyway, I figured out a way to keep me behind the scenes at the club without having to get on stage.” And getting naked and pawed by a bunch of rabid women.

Crew was still smirking when he asked, “How?”

“When I run the CI opportunity by her, I’m also going to ask if she’d act like we’re seeing each other.”

“Wait… You mean like playing her boyfriend?”

Fuck, he could already see Crew’s mind turning. “Yeah. It’ll give me a reason to visit her at the club, and also a reason to hang out there and observe. But the best part is it’ll give me access to the employee area to possibly witness any backdoor dealings myself.”

Crew slapped his palm against the front of Finn’s cut. “Well, damn, there might be something in that pretty little head of yours after all. I always thought you were all looks and no brains. But by you asking her to go steady and giving her your class ring, are you hoping to have a real shot with her?”

Like Finn would admit that to the expert ball-buster. He knew better. “Simply being a team player, that’s all.”

Crew burst out laughing. “Uh huh. I know you too well, you horny fucker. Look at you trying to snag some… perks.” He turned serious. “But you know you can’t fuck with a CI, brother.”

“I don’t plan on fucking with her.”

“Let me rephrase… You shouldn’t fuck a CI if you’re her handler, Finn. That could make any possible testimony suspect. The defense attorneys would just fucking love to sink their teeth into any inappropriate conduct that occurred during the investigation.”

“She doesn’t have to report to me.”

Crew’s eyebrows rose. “Damn, brother, so you do want a piece of her.”

Finn shrugged. “Right now, I’m just going to try to get her to be a CI and for me to be her fake boyfriend, then we’ll go from there. If it gets sticky, we’ll pivot.”

“Pivot,” the task force leader repeated, dropping his chin to his chest and shooting Finn a look. “If there’s a possibility that you two might become horizontal dance partners, I don’t want you managing her at all. Unless you don’t mind putting everything you do in the daily reports. Down to the last detail.”

Right. “Let me get her to agree first, then we can revisit this. If she agrees to pretend she’s my girlfriend, we can have you or someone else on the team be her handler, if you think that will keep things neater.”

“Sounds like you are interested,” he grinned, “and you think you can get her.”

“I’m not thinking anything except ahead. I’m only considering possibilities.”

“Speaking of possibilities, do you think the Demons, especially that Saint dirtbag, will have a problem with you hanging out there? Do you think it’ll throw any red flags?” the task force leader asked.

“It could,” Finn answered truthfully, “but I plan on playing a very possessive boyfriend. I could act like an over the top jealous motherfucker and pretend I hate her working in a strip club.”

“But she’s not working the stage.”

“No, but even as the manager, she’s on the floor and surrounded by a bunch of horny men almost every night. Any insecure narcissist isn’t going to like that. That shit would eat away at his psyche. I don’t think Saint’s ready to replace her, so they might tolerate me hanging around and ‘watching’ my woman just to keep her working there.”

“True.” He stroked the wiry gray hairs on his chin. “If you can pull it off, that may work. It could also fucking backfire. Either way, she’d have to agree to all of that first. One thing you neglected to mention… her relationship status. No real living, breathing, jealous boyfriend will come out of the woodwork and fuck up your plan?”
