Either way, the view was spectacular. All solid muscle covered in firm flesh. Narrow waist and hips. Thick, corded thighs. The way the stretchy cotton of his dark boxer briefs clung to his bulge. It might not be an anaconda sliding through the water, but it was a perfect size, even in its relaxed state.

Not that she should care, she reminded herself. What he packed in his underwear really wasn’t any of her business. He might not officially be her boss but he was close enough. And fawning over someone you worked for could end up a complete disaster.

As he lowered his bulk, the water level rose to the point where it splashed over the side like a waterfall.

Oh yeah. She couldn’t imagine the average biker had that kind of physique. No wonder he wore a silicone belly to fit in. Even so, it was hard to hide those rock-hard shoulder boulders no matter what he wore.

“Are you okay?”

She forced her eyes up to his and cleared both her throat and her mind. “Uh huh.” Then bit her bottom lip to keep from following that up by saying something stupid.

He took a seat across from her but, at over six feet tall, his legs only fit comfortably by propping his feet on the seat next to her. She tried not to shoot out of the water like a flying fish when his firm calf brushed against her hip.

Instead, her heart leapt into her throat and stuck here.

She scrambled to think of something to say that didn’t make her sound like a bumbling idiot.

“They want you working in a pizza shop?” Heat exploded in her cheeks. Shit. Nice going, Sloane. You just outed your snooping self. “Sorry, I didn’t mean to eavesdrop.”

He stared across the churning water, a couple beads of sweat already clinging to his forehead. The water might be toasty but it soothed away her tension. Hopefully, it was doing the same for him.

“You didn’t mean to, but you did.”

His grumbled accusation made her clench below the water. The exact opposite effect it should have.

“Did I overhear something I shouldn’t have? If so, I’m sorry.”

“You already know I work for a task force and that I’m undercover with the Demons. If I can trust you with that info, then what I said to Crew isn’t a big deal.”

“Your secret’s safe with me.”

“How much did you hear?” he asked.

“Enough to know you’ll be working for the Demons at a pizza shop in Connellsville.”

He nodded. “They want me to make deliveries. I’ll find out more tomorrow when I report there to meet with whoever’s running that location.”

While she was relieved he trusted her enough to share that, what he’d be doing for the Demons also concerned her. “What about my sister?”

His head twitched. “What about her?”

“The whole deal with this…” She swept her hand out, indicating the space around them. “With me moving in was for you to find Sadie.”

“That hasn’t changed. I still plan on doing that.”

“But how? You’ll be busy delivering pizzas.” And for all she knew, Sadie was living on the street and certainly wasn’t getting pizza delivered.

“As a prospect, I have to attend the parties and meetings. I’ll also be hanging at the clubhouse as much as possible. I plan on asking around. Don’t worry, I got it covered. But you can help by getting me better pictures of Sadie. I might send them to everyone on the task force. This way they can all keep an eye out and report back to me if they see her.”

“How many task force officers are there?”

“We have three groups of fifteen. One group covering West Virginia, one covering Ohio and then there’s our group, which covers Pennsylvania.”

“Wow. Forty-five law enforcement officers to take down one motorcycle club?” That could potentially mean forty-five more pairs of eyes keeping watch for Sadie. She’d make sure to get him some good photos. At least one before she went down the addiction rabbit hole, as well as the one she had that was more recent.

Her younger sister looked so strung out now her former friends might never recognize her. She used to be beautiful and happy. The last time Sloane saw her, she wanted to break down in tears. Sadie was wasting away to nothing. Loose skin over bones, dull eyes, hollowed cheeks.

Sloane didn’t realize she had squeezed her eyes shut until she heard his next words.

“It’s more involved than that. There are a lot of moving pieces.”

“Is the task force made up strictly with state police officers like you?”

“No, since it’s federal, it’s a mix of city, local, state cops along with agents from the DEA and FBI.”

“Oh, that’s right, you mentioned Crew was a DEA agent.”

“He’s the task force leader for our group,” he reminded her.

“Do you think the pizza shop is a front for selling drugs?”
