Jesus Christ. His fingers twitched with the need to pull his gun and plug two holes center mass into the motherfucker. “The fuck I do. You know why?”

“Don’t give a fuck why.”

Decker leaned down and got in his face, growling, “Don’t give a fuck that you don’t give a fuck. Now fuck off.”

“No fuckin’ way. She works for me.”

Sure she did. “She’s on death’s door, asshole. She can’t work for anyone when she’s like that.”

“Gonna go get Wolf.”

Decker hoped he did so that gave him an opportunity to split. “Do that, you pussy-ass bitch. Go get your daddy to come help you.”

T-Bone jabbed a finger at Decker’s chest. “You’re stealin’ my fuckin’ property. You’re gonna lose your cut for takin’ what ain’t yours.”

Like Decker gave a fuck about that.

When T-Bone stepped to his left to get around Decker, he shifted to block him again.

Then T-Bone attempted to quickly skirt around him. The second Decker grabbed his arm to stop him, the prospect spun on him and threw a punch at the same time.

The hit skimmed off his cheek but still managed to snap his head back.

Fucking motherfucker! “Don’t got time for this goddamn bullshit,” Decker ground out under his breath. Louder he said, “She’s done bein’ yours. She’s mine now. So, fuck off.”

“She ain’t yours.”

“She is now.” Decker grabbed the man’s shirt with both hands, flung him around, and slammed him into the driver’s door, then hauled off and delivered a blow to the face.

T-Bone grunted at the impact, his head cracked hard against the door window—miraculously not shattering it—and as the stunned prospect began to slide down the door, he caught himself and used the truck to haul his own ass back up.

Before the prospect could finish getting his shit together, Decker grabbed him, spun him again and threw him to the ground and out of his way so he could get the fuck out of there.

“You’re fucked, asshole,” T-Bone screamed, dragging the back of his hand over his bleeding mouth. “Watch your fuckin’ back, Hatchet.”

“You got me shakin’ in my goddamn boots, Flank Steak.” He shrugged out of his cut and tossed it at the prospect. “Give that to Wolf. Won’t be needin’ it anymore.”

“Gonna fuckin’ pay for this.”

“Probably,” he muttered and swung into the truck before he had to teach the asshole another lesson.

But he had no more time to waste.

Sadie needed to get to the hospital. And she needed to get there now.

Chapter Twenty-Six

Sloane raced from the elevator, squeezing between the doors before they even finished sliding open. She didn’t bother to stop at the nurses’ station since she spotted Decker down the corridor, waiting outside what she assumed was Sadie’s hospital room.

The second he saw her, his crossed arms dropped to his side and he pushed off the wall, swinging around to face her as she did her best to keep from running full speed to him.

As soon as she was in hearing distance, she heard his low warning, “Keep your shit together, babe.”

Her step stuttered. “She’s alive, though, right?”

Please, please, please, tell me she’s going to make it.

“Barely.” He grabbed her shoulders and pulled her into him, wrapping her tightly in his arms and pressing his face into her hair.

“I want to see her.”

When she tried to pull free, he tightened his grip. “In a second. I need to prepare you first.”

With a sharp sting in her eyes, she glanced up at his very guarded expression. “She’s alive. That’s all that matters.”

“Sloane…”

“Just tell me so I can get in there.”

“She has an IV and is hooked up to all kinds of machines. Her organs were shutting down. I don’t know when she’s last eaten. And I’m not going to beat around the bush with this… If you didn’t hear that heart monitor beeping, you’d think she’s dead.”

Sloane sucked in a sharp breath and let what he just said settle into her brain so she could mentally prepare for the worst. “Where did you find her?”

“We’ll talk about that later. All that matters right now is, she’s free of the Demons and we need to keep her that way. And if she’s willing, she’ll be on the road to recovery soon.”

If she’s willing. That would be a problem. “I hope you’re right.”

“Me, too,” he whispered. “You ready?”

No, she wasn’t, but she’d have to be.

With her heart thumping so hard it could punch a hole in her chest, she gave him a slight nod.

He dropped a heavy arm around her shoulders, brushed his lips over her temple, then steered her toward the door. After he opened it, she had to bite back a gasp when they stepped inside and she saw her baby sister.

He was right. Sadie looked like she was about to take her last breath at any second. Sloane pressed fingers to her mouth as Decker grabbed a chair and dragged it next to the bed.
