And they stayed that way until he had no choice but to rid himself of the full condom and go clean up.

But it wasn’t long before he returned with a damp washcloth to clean her up.

When he was done, he pulled her into his side and she wrapped a leg around his, draped her arm over his waist, and rested her cheek on his chest, staring up at him as he did the same to the ceiling.

“You okay?” she asked.

He tipped his eyes down to her and it took a few more seconds before he responded, “Yeah. You?”

“Perfect.”

“Good.” He let out a long sigh and tucked one arm behind his head. “I thought about fucking you all day.”

Apparently, she had misread his reaction. Nothing was wrong and everything was right. “You did?”

“You’d think fucking you in the morning would leave me satisfied all day, but it doesn’t.”

She frowned. “It doesn’t?”

“No.” He locked eyes with her. “It only leaves me wanting more of you, Sloane.”

Her heart decided to play hopscotch with that admission.

Well then… “I’ll have you know, it’s the same for me. From the second you walk out the door as Hatchet to the second you come back through it as Owen Decker, all I think about is you—” Shit. “Having sex with you.”

He caught her slip but didn’t press her on it. Because if he had to admit it, it wasn’t only sex with Sloane he thought about, either. It was everything about her. All of it.

And sometimes he wondered how he—as well as Val—would cope once he found Sloane’s sister and their agreement was fulfilled.

“That’s not all you think about,” he finally said in an effort to avoid thinking about the day Sloane moved out.

“You’re right. I still have my sister constantly in my thoughts and that will continue until I know she’s safe. And until she’s clean.”

He mindlessly combed his fingers through her silky hair now spread over his chest. “I want that for you, Sloane. You don’t know just how much I do…”

“I know. Don’t say it.” She took an audible breath. “Please.”

Obviously, she was scared.

For her sister. Because of her sister.

He saw that the fear ate at her. And that ate at him.

Reality could be a fucking bitch. And in Sadie’s case, it would be. His guess was the woman was too far gone to be saved.

He hoped like fuck he was wrong.

Even so, Sloane wasn’t alone in this anymore. She could lean on him. And in turn, he leaned on her because of Val.

When he approached her in that motel to present his idea, he’d been worried he was making a mistake by trusting his girl, one of the most important humans in his life, with a stranger.

But, thank fuck, his instinct had been solid. And he never once regretted that decision made out of desperation. Sloane was much better with his Valee Girl than he could ever hope or even imagine.

“Anything on that lead you said you would follow?”

T-Bone. He wasn’t sure how much he should tell her because he was afraid she’d go hunt down T-Bone on her own.

He would lose his fucking mind if she did.

“I need to be careful. If I ask too many questions, it’ll raise a red flag. The best way for me to handle it is to stay observant and casually ask very neutral questions. I know you’re worried, Sloane. And, believe me, if anyone wants to find her for you, it’s me. I, out of anyone, understand what you’re feeling since I’ve lived it. And I’m sorry this is taking longer than either you or I would like. But I can’t fuck up this investigation, blow my cover, or worse, put a target on Sadie by showing a lot of interest in a woman I’ve never met.”

“I understand you have to handle this delicately, but—”

“It’s not only me looking for her now. Last night I sent her photos to everyone on the task force, and all of my BAMC brothers, too. The team will keep an eye on the cameras at The Peach Pit—”

“The Peach Pit?” Her blue eyes went wide. “The strip club? Is she stripping?”

“No. At least I don’t think so. And I’m telling you right now, Sloane, stay out of there. We’re handling this. If you go running in there making demands, it could set us back. But I’ll tell you this… The lead I heard was,” he hesitated because this was going to hurt, “she was being kept by one of the Demon prospects. He works at The Peach Pit.”

“What do you mean kept? Like a prisoner?”

“Not quite a prisoner.” Or at least he didn’t think so. But he wouldn’t put anything past those Demons.

Her brow furrowed and her voice was tight when she asked, “Like a sex slave?”

“Maybe. Don’t know yet. He could be selling her for money and giving her meth to keep her working and compliant, but I won’t know that until we find her.”
