“I guess you need to go out?”

The dog’s answering soft woof made him wince.

He pressed a finger to his lips. “Shh. Don’t wake her.”

For fuck’s sake, was he having a fucking conversation with a dog?

Not only that, but while naked?

“Don’t grab anything hanging within reach, dog,” he warned as he pushed past Murphy, holding his clothes over his junk, and went into the guest bathroom to empty his own bladder and get dressed.

Maybe he didn’t get what he’d come for. But at least he could go on about his day not worried that she got home safely.

However, this afternoon he picked up his kids and he wouldn’t be able to head back to Hawg Wild this weekend to keep an eye on her.

Maybe another call to Fletch was in order.

If she wasn’t happy about him sending someone else in his place, she’d just have to get over it.

“Hey, I handed in my DAMC cut to the prez. Also thanked him for letting us use their club as cover,” Fletch told him while Crew sat in his car a half block from his kid’s school.

He never got into the drop-off or pick-up line anymore since the mothers picking up their children ended up yelling at him and laying on the horn when he took too long. Sometimes even flipping him off.

They were vicious.

He guessed the whole system was supposed to be “stop, drop and roll.”

He now had a designated spot where he met the kids without dealing with threats of violence.

“You didn’t say anything to him about the Demons possibly trying to usurp their territory, right?” Crew asked.

“Fuck no,” Fletch answered, “but something Z said made me think that they’re aware of it.”

“Well, that’s just fucking great. We need to get indictments and shut down those motherfuckers before they try to take the Angels’ territory around Shadow Valley.”

“Agreed, brother. Hey, speaking of brothers… Now that I’m about to be a Demon, Decker asked me to keep an ear open to find out what happened with T-Bone.”

“Be careful if you ask about him. We don’t want it throwing up any red flags. My guess is that they already dealt with his ass and you won’t hear a peep about him. It’ll be like he never existed. But you can check to see if he still has his room at their church.”

“Will do. Also got a call from both Finn and Rez about Saint. You on board with us handling him separately from the rest of those motherfuckers?”

What the hell? He needed to have to have a sit-down with those two. They couldn’t be going all vigilante on the Demons. That could fuck everything up. “No. We’re not risking this investigation for personal vendettas. He’ll get dealt with. They only need some patience.”

“I agree with that, too. Though, he does deserve some extra special handling.”

“I won’t argue that. When’s the patch-over?”

“Tonight.”

Fuck. That meant Fletch and Wilder wouldn’t be able to head to Hawg Wild tonight. “Can you head to Hawg Wild tomorrow night and check in on Cabrera? She’s going by the name Rose. I’ll text you a pic of her so you know who you’re looking for. Be aware that I already had a little discussion with the manager there last night about his customers being handsy with her. Bulldog is also the Demons’ sergeant at arms.”

“Yeah, I’ve heard of him. Big dude.”

“Sure as fuck is.”

“You don’t think she can handle that shit herself?”

Whether she could or couldn’t wasn’t the point. “I’m the task force leader. It’s my job to—”

Fletch’s loud snort cut him off. “Don’t even try feeding me that bullshit, brother. You certainly don’t feel the need to visit me and Nova. Anyway, there’s no way we can go to Hawg Wild tomorrow night. We’re expected to go to a party at the Viper’s Den this weekend.”

“For the whole damn weekend?” For fuck’s sake!

“That’s what I said. We’re supposed to head there once I get my new patches. On that note, I’ll need another cut for those.”

“Noted.”

“We need a place to live, Crew.”

“I’m working on that. I should have something for you after this weekend.”

“What do we do until then?”

“Party all weekend at the Viper’s Den?” he semi-joked. “Take a tent.”

Fletch groaned. “We’ll grab a motel until you get our living arrangements sorted. I’ll save you the receipts.”

“It’s not easy finding a vacant apartment this quickly,” he explained.

“Yeah, and we don’t want a damn shit hole. Not if you expect us to live in it for a few months.”

“Understood.”

“I’ve turned my whole fucking life upside down by going undercover.” Fletch sounded a bit annoyed and Crew didn’t blame him.

“Yeah, I get that, and I appreciate your dedication. Wilder’s, too. But remember, if it wasn’t for the task force you never would’ve met her. And you’d still be a lonely fucker.”

“Like you?” Fletch huffed. “There’s more to life than free internet porn and your fist.”
