He stared at the wad of saliva in the center of her palm. “Are you serious?” He shook his head and sighed.

She jiggled her extended hand.

“Oh, you really want me to fucking shake it?”

“Of course. Gentleman’s agreement.”

“You’re not a gentleman.”

“Neither are you,” she countered.

Well, they could agree on one thing, at least.

He grabbed her hand and instead of shaking it, he gave it a gentle squeeze. “I also need you to promise me that if shit goes sideways, you’ll extract yourself from that situation as fast as you can without blowing your cover.”

“I can do that.”

“I don’t want you doing something stupid that’ll get you in more of a jam.”

“Okay.”

“Don’t try to be a hero. The most important thing is you getting out of there in one piece,” he added.

“Fine.”

“And I want you checking in with me whenever you can while you’re there.”

He waited for her to roll her eyes or give him shit, and was floored when she only answered with, “I’ll say I’m checking in with my ol’ man if they question it.”

Wait. What? “Your ol’ man,” he echoed.

“His name is Throttle. They called him a lone wolf since he’s a biker without a club.”

“He’s a biker without a club?” he repeated.

“Are you sure your hearing isn’t failing?”

“Are you saying you told them you’re a biker’s ol’ lady?”

“That’s what I’m saying,” she answered.

Well, shit, that was a smart move. “That gives us some flexibility in case one of us needs to go in and check on you.”

“I guess.”

“And they might leave you alone if you’re an ol’ lady.”

“It’s possible.”

He suddenly liked this plan a lot more. Though, he still didn’t like the idea of her working in a biker bar by herself. Being an ol’ lady might get her a touch more respect, but not enough to make him feel comfortable about it.

The only issue he saw with that was, since she wouldn’t be wearing her man’s colors, most patrons at Hawg Wild might not know she was an ol’ lady. “You need to mention Throttle a lot while you work.”

“Why?”

“Because it might give you a layer of protection. It might be a thin layer but it’s better than none.”

“I planned on it since I figured they’d trust me more knowing my man’s a biker. Plus, that’s who I was buying the meth for. He’s my excuse to keep doing buys while I work there.”

Damn it. He needed to give her more credit than he wanted to. “Whatever you do, don’t describe Throttle at all. This way if I have to come up with someone to go undercover as him, it’ll make it easier. Speaking of undercover, let’s see how tonight goes and then I can get you an ID with whatever name you’re using.”

“Rose Campbell. But I’m going to be paid in tips. I doubt they’d ask me for my driver’s license or social security number even if I wasn’t.”

He frowned. “Rose Campbell?”

“I picked a name that would pass as white. I figured they might believe I’m simply a sun worshipper and have a tan.”

Once again her being quick-witted made him do a double take. “Good thinking,” he murmured, if not a bit reluctantly.

She curled a hand around her ear and leaned closer. “What?”

“Are you mocking me?”

Her husky chuckle did something to him that made him wish he had another condom in his wallet. “Never.”

He needed to get out of there before he decided to raw dog it. He’d been snipped years ago but that wasn’t why he insisted on wearing condoms. “Okay, I need to get the fuck out of here and go back to The Plant. I’m supposed to be working not fucking.” Though, technically they did talk about work, so there was that.

“But fucking is so much more fun.”

“Depends on who it’s with.”

“Ah. So, you regret showing up here uninvited, do you?”

He rolled from the bed and to his feet. “Did I say that?”

“While you might not admit it, we both know why you showed up here.”

“To check on one of my team members since she didn’t check in with me,” he said on his way to the bathroom, used condom in hand.

“I didn’t know I had to.”

“You wouldn’t have had to if you hadn’t brought home the pool car.”

“Are you saying you wouldn’t have been leaning on my doorbell this morning if I had switched out cars?”

He hesitated at the bathroom door.

“You were looking for any excuse to come over here.”

He turned. “You’re wrong.”

For fuck’s sake, she was sitting in that bed buck naked and looking freshly fucked. It took everything in his power not to climb back on the bed, flip her over, shove her face into the pillow so she couldn’t say a fucking word and fuck her from behind.

“That’s fine,” she responded. “Don’t admit it. But tell me… Was it everything you dreamed it would be?”
