“I might be interested in joining your little club,” she announced next.

“Oh yeah?” Jamison’s slate blue eyes cut over to Crew. They locked gazes for a second before his went back to the woman standing next to Crew. “Do you ride?”

“Not yet, but I can learn. Unless you don’t let women join?”

“We don’t discriminate. The only requirement is that you have a badge. Or that you retired honorably.”

Suddenly he was flanked by Rez and Finn. Just fucking great.

“We could use more members,” Finn said.

“Have you ever ridden on a bike with someone else?” Rez asked.

Cabrera shook her head. “No.”

“Don’t you think that would be the first step?” Crew asked more sharply than he should’ve.

He didn’t miss it when Finn and Rez exchanged looks.

“I don’t know, would it?” she asked.

“Take her for a ride, Crewser,” Finn encouraged him with a laugh and whacked the back of his hand into Crew’s gut. “Or have her be your backpack on the next run.”

For fuck’s sake.

Cabrera’s eyebrows pinched together. “What does that mean?”

“It means riding on the back of Crew’s bike when we have our next organized club ride,” Jamison explained.

“Oh, that sounds like fun. But after watching him almost eat it down the steps, I’m wondering if his balance is good enough to ride.”

Oh, for fuck’s sake!

“Do you think it would be safe for me to ride with him?” she asked next, trying to appear innocent.

It was all an act.

Both Rez and Finn snorted in stereo.

“I can take you for a spin,” Rez volunteered.

“Sapphire won’t mind, brother?” Crew asked him.

“Sapphire? What a unique name!” Cabrera exclaimed.

“She’s unique all right,” Crew muttered.

Rez scratched his cheek with his middle finger. “She’s one of a kind. But no, she wouldn’t mind. It’ll be a quick spin on my bike. Now, if she was spinning on my—”

Crew clapped his hands loudly. “Okay! Time for you to go so we can get this intervention started.”

“So, you’ll take her for a ride, then?” Finn asked Crew, not hiding his amusement.

“Yeah, once I install my training wheels.” He grabbed Cabrera’s elbow and steered her toward Decker where he stood jawing with Cross near the kitchen area.

“Yo, Full Deck, throw me your key to Fletch’s house.”

Decker frowned. “Why?”

“We’re done checking on it.” For now, anyway.

“Why? Are you pulling him from the Dirty Angels?”

“No, she’s going to be staying at his place and keeping an eye on it.”

With his eyebrows hiked up his forehead, Decker’s eyes landed on Cabrera. “Are you staying there by yourself?”

“Well, me and my—”

“Keys, Deck!” Crew shouted, making everyone stare at him in surprise. “Hurry up before Nox wanders down here.”

“What the fuck’s wrong with you?” Decker grumbled, digging deep into his front pocket.

“Nothing. The intervention’s on my mind, that’s all.”

“Right,” Decker murmured, pulling Fletch’s house key off a ring and tossing it to Cabrera. “It’ll be good not to have to run over there all the time.”

“It sounds like a win-win situation for everyone involved,” she answered.

He firmly grabbed her elbow again and guided her back to the meeting room. “You can go out the side door. I’ll make sure you get a key for our clubhouse, too.”

“I’ll start moving into his house tonight. It might take me a few days with my car.”

“No, it won’t. Fletch said you can borrow his truck. Just don’t fuck it up. The key’s hanging in the laundry room by the door to the garage. See you tomorrow.” He gave her a little push. “I’d help, but as you see I’m busy.”

She huffed, “No, you wouldn’t.”

They heard Jamison yell out, “Who wants to go up and get him?”

“I’ll go,” came from Cross.

“Okay, you gotta go,” Crew said, opening up the side door and urging her to leave.

“Good luck,” she said as she brushed past him.

They’d need that and more.

Chapter Six

Crew’s fingers dug painfully into his own thighs as Nox stepped out of the BAMC’s meeting room.

The man stopped short and took them all in. “What the fuck is this?”

Cross moved to stand next to him and put a hand on his back, urging, “Go have a seat.”

Even from where Crew sat in a folding chair set up behind one of the couches, he could see Nox’s flared nostrils and his jaw sharp enough to cut glass. “No. We had no meeting scheduled, so I don’t know what the fuck this is.”

When he turned, Cross blocked him from going out the same way they came in.

Decker jumped out of his seat and rushed over to make sure Nox didn’t leave out the back door, either.

“Have a seat,” Jamison called out, pointing to the middle cushion on the center couch. A spot saved just for Nox.

Nox’s dark eyes found Crew. “Is this task force business?” he asked sharply.

He knew it wasn’t since most of the people there weren’t on the task force. The man was stalling. “No, but you still answer to me.”
