She shook her head. “I don’t understand.”

“I’m going to explain it, just give me a chance.”

“You were the one in a rush to get out of here.”

He slipped his mirrored sunglasses over his gorgeous eyes even though the sun was beginning to set. “The BAMC owns that building. They rent the top floor to the feds for our task force.”

She pressed her lips together to keep from asking one hundred and one questions and did her best to let him explain first.

“The BAMC originally bought it as their clubhouse.”

She pressed her lips tighter together because he wasn’t talking fast enough. And she had no idea what the BAMC stood for.

“We redid the whole building.”

Fighting impatience, her hands curled into fists, and she pressed them to her thighs to keep from bursting.

“We made the first floor our clubhouse. The second floor is Nox’s apartment.”

She pushed out a breath. “Can I talk now?”

“I’d prefer you didn’t.”

“Then I’m going to make a lot of assumptions that you may not want me to make.”

He pulled in a breath. “Fine.”

“Are you a member of this MC?”

“Yes.”

“What does BAMC stand for?”

“Honor and loyalty.”

“I meant the acronym.”

“Blue Avengers Motorcycle Club.”

She could’ve figured out the last part, but she let it go. “Is it all LEO?”

“Yes.”

She nodded. “I’ve heard of that. MCs made up of only military, or members who are all firefighters. That’s cool you’re a part of one made up of law enforcement.” Maybe that stick was only shoved up his ass when it came to her. “How many members are there?”

“A dozen. We used to be one large MC but we grew so much we voted to divide the club into six regional charters to make it more manageable. Nobody from Philly wants to ride all those hours to Pittsburgh for a meeting or a club run. And vice versa.”

“That makes sense. So, if I buy a bike, can I join? Or do you not take women?”

His jaw shifted when he hesitated. “We don’t discriminate. The main requirement to join is that you’re a current or retired sworn officer or federal agent. Plus, you need to be able to pay your dues.” His eyebrows pinned together. “Do you ride?”

“No, but I can learn.”

He snorted.

“What? You don’t think I can?”

“I didn’t say that.”

“That little snort sounded like you doubted my ability.”

“You might want to make sure you’ll be staying in this area first before investing time and money into buying a bike and learning how to ride.”

Her eyes narrowed on him. “I don’t plan on going anywhere for a while.”

He mmm’d.

“What does that mean?”

“Nothing.”

Did he not think she could hack being a part of the task force? She loved a challenge, and this was no different.

She stared at the biggest challenge of all. A man who doubted her. She couldn’t wait to prove him wrong. “Thanks for the tour. How soon can I move in?”

“It’s empty, so whenever you want.”

“If I can get a key from you tomorrow, I’ll start moving my stuff in tomorrow night. I might have to make a few trips since my car isn’t big and Murphy takes up most of it. Unless you know anyone with a truck I can borrow?” He did mention that Fletcher had a truck.

“How much shit do you have?”

“Only necessities at this point. Most of my stuff is being stored at my parents’ for now but I shipped some stuff out here already. Like clothes. But I don’t have room for both that and Murph.”

“You named your dog Murphy?”

“He came with the name since I got him from a rescue. His former owners didn’t research the breed well enough and didn’t realize how big he’d get. I benefitted from their mistake. He’s the perfect companion.” Unlike some men.

“All right. I’ll get you a key tomorrow and I’ll talk to the guys to see if anyone’s willing to let you borrow their truck or SUV.”

“You don’t have one?”

“If no one volunteers, I’ll ask Fletch if you can borrow his.”

Nice deflection. “I appreciate it. Then I guess I’ll see you tomorrow at the plant.”

As she began to round his bike, he said, “Just so you know, we call the whole building The Plant, not just the third floor. So, if you meet any of the BAMC members not on the task force, I don’t want you getting confused if you hear them calling our clubhouse that.”

“That’s not very original.”

He shrugged on his black leather jacket that somehow made him look even hotter. Damn it. Nobody had the right to look that good. Especially a man who had worked with her dad.

“Yeah, well… I guess we’re not very creative.”

“Just the facts, ma’am,” she quoted. She paused after opening her driver’s door and stared at the interior for a second, debating whether she should address the elephant in the room.

Fuck it. She didn’t want him to continue to spread rumors or make wrong assumptions. She might as well nip that shit in the bud.
