“I’m totally fucking serious. He’s a complete nerd and even his name fits him. It’s… get this… Clark.”

Fletch released a low whistle. “That can’t be all you have on him. Know where he works?”

“Nope. Just that he’s an actuary.”

“What the fuck is that?” Fletch asked.

“Exactly.”

“You didn’t run his plate?” Fletch asked next.

Crew scraped fingers through his hair. “Brother, they always use her vehicle so we can’t grab it.”

“Damn. Someone needs to pick his pocket and grab his license. Get Nox on it. He’s good at picking locks, maybe he’s good at picking wallets. Speaking of Fort Nox, when’s the intervention?”

“Soon, I think. I need to touch base with Jamison. You know how hard it is to get the majority of us together at the same time.”

“It can’t wait too much longer. Hell, it’s already been too long as it is. It doesn’t need to be everybody, just enough to convince him that he needs help.”

Crew agreed. “No shit. I told him that.”

“So, you woke me up to tell me Monty’s getting some nerd action?”

“No, but why aren’t you already awake? Don’t you need to go work at the gun shop?” Crew asked.

“Not until later.”

“Any movement with patching over to the Demons?”

“Wolf’s still resistant to presenting it to the prez.”

He didn’t want to lose out on his cut of the sales he made to Fletch. With as much as the feds were buying, that came out to a nice chunk of change. “Keep working him.”

A loud yawn filled Crew’s ear. “That it?” Fletch prodded.

“No.”

“Jesus. Can you get to it, then?”

“I was thinking about your house.”

“I’ve heard of some strange fetishes before but that might take the cake. I’m not sure I want you going over there to check on it anymore. Don’t make me take a blacklight to the interior of my home.”

“I make my deposits on the outside, so the rain washes away the evidence.”

Fletch fake gagged.

“Are you interested in renting it out?”

“I thought Sapphire moved in permanently with Rez-avoir Dog.”

“She did,” Crew responded. “It’s not for her.”

“Are you in financial straits and need to sell your place due to all that alimony and child support?”

“No,” Crew answered. “But thanks for that painful reminder, jackass.”

Fletch snorted. “You’re reminded every month when your salary disappears from your bank account.”

“Again, thanks for that. It’s not for me.”

“Then who? I don’t want just anyone living in my home and sleeping in my bed.”

Crew wouldn’t, either. “If no one has told you yet, we got a replacement for Butler.”

“Oh yeah? Where’s he from?”

“The DEA. And he’s a she. Her father is the principal deputy administrator.”

“Don’t know what the hell that is.”

“Someone who could crush my stellar career if she runs to Daddy and complains about me.”

Fletch whistled. “Then you’re fucked because you’re a complete asshole. So, Daddy gave her an in with the DEA,” Fletch concluded. “What about the task force?”

“That’s my guess because if I had a choice, it wouldn’t be her.”

“Why? Is she incompetent?”

No, she’s a headstrong smart ass. “I don’t know, I only met her yesterday.” As an adult, anyway. “Today will be her first full day with the team.”

“So, what’s wrong with giving her a chance?”

“She’s only twenty-eight.”

“Okay? Nova was only thirty-one when she joined us. I know math is hard for you unless it comes to your alimony payments, but that’s only a three year difference. And my woman’s a great federal agent and task force member.”

“What else is she good at?”

“Kicking ass. Do you want to test her? Okay… Why does… What’s her name?”

“Camila Cabrera.”

A chuckle came through the phone. “Please tell me she speaks fluent Spanish.”

“Fuck off.”

The chuckle became a full-blown roar of laughter. “Oh, man. The conversations between Torres, Rez and her should be interesting.”

Crew sucked at his teeth. “If you can understand them.”

“There’s an app that’ll help you learn so you don’t feel left out,” Fletch said, still laughing. “No wonder why your panties are in a twist. So, why does Cabrera need a place?”

“She just transferred from Virginia and has been staying at one of those extended stay hotels,” Crew explained.

“Well, I guess if she stays in my place, then you guys won’t have to keep going over there to check on it.”

“The house would be safer with an occupant,” Crew agreed. Cabrera staying at Fletch’s would kill two birds with one stone.

“Yeah, especially when the house sitter would be a highly-trained federal agent. But just how long do you think we’ll be on this assignment? I’d like to sleep in my own bed again sometime in this decade. Do you expect us to stay undercover all the way up to indictments?”

“No, but I don’t expect her to stay in your place very long. It’s only temporary.”

“Because she’ll get her own place?”

“No. My guess is she’ll eventually cry mercy and ask to be transferred elsewhere.”
