“Your reasoning could be classified as gaslighting right now, Big Mack. Which is seriously deranged, considering the circumstances for this discussion.”

He waggles his brows at me in the mirror as he slides his hands under my dress to grip my ass through my panties. “There’s something about that nickname that I thoroughly enjoy,” he says as he presses his half-hard cock against me. “It feels right, you know?”

“Oh my God!” I retort on a laugh and turn around to push him and his grabby hands away from me. “You need to leave this bathroom right now, mister. I refuse to let you pull me into your perverted sex web! I have a busy day today, and I am not going to be late.”

“Fine.” Mack just laughs it off and puts his hands behind his back like he’s going to be handcuffed any minute. “I certainly don’t want to be the reason you’re late today, of all days.”

I quirk a brow at him.

“Career Day,” he answers my silent question, and I am shocked when I realize he’s completely right.

Today is the big Career Day that I’ve been planning for the past several weeks. And I pretty much forgot about it.

How in the hell did that happen?

It probably has something to do with that sex web you mentioned.

“I guess I’ll let you finish getting ready,” he states and leans down to press a kiss to my lips. He doesn’t care when he sees that some of my lipstick finds its way onto his face. He just smiles at the discovery in the mirror before swiping it off with his hand. “I’ll make myself useful and prep us a quick to-go breakfast. Sound good?”

“Sounds like the first rational thing you’ve said all morning.”

I can hear his responding chuckles down the hall as he heads out of the bathroom and into the main area of his apartment.

I spend the next ten minutes putting the finishing touches on my hair and applying some blush, eye shadow, and mascara. By the time I meet him in the kitchen, he’s at the stove, moving slices of freshly cooked bacon onto a plate.

Normally, I’d be all in for some bacon, but when the smell hits my nostrils, it’s entirely grosser than I’m expecting. It’s potent and intense, and instantly, my stomach gives its best impression of Lurch from the Addams Family.

“A little bacon, egg, and cheese breakfast sandwich sound good to you?” Mack asks, but I’m already covering my mouth and nose with my hand and shaking my head.

“That bacon smells so bad. I think something is wrong with it.”

“What?” His eyes go wide in outrage. “Are you kidding me? It smells fucking fantastic. And I just bought it two days ago.”

“I don’t know, Mack. It’s literally making me want to puke.”

“I take it you don’t want the sandwich, then?” he questions, and I laugh.

“Definitely not.” I head over to the pantry, and when I spot a box of granola bars, I snag one from it without a second thought. “I’ll eat this instead.”

“You sure you don’t want me to make you something else?”

“No thank you.” While pinching my nose, I close the distance between us and place a gentle kiss to his cheek. “I’ll see you at school, okay?”

“What? You’re leaving without me?”

“Uh, yeah.” I walk around the island and grab my bags. “You know the routine. We can’t show up together.”

Of course, I only make it halfway to the door before Mack jogs up behind me and spins me around to face him. This is pretty much the drill every morning too.

“Just one more kiss before you go,” he says and presses his mouth to mine. The kiss lingers a little longer than it probably should, and when he finally pulls away, I can see remnants of my lipstick on his lips again. “Have a good day at school today, honey,” he adds with a sexy little smirk. “I can’t wait until tonight.”

“What’s tonight exactly?”

“You’re going to stay at my place again.”

I snort. “I’ve been here the past three nights, Mack. I have to stay at my place.”

“Okay, fine.” He shrugs. “Then, I’ll stay at your place.”

“I’ll think about it.” I press one final kiss to his lips and make a point to wipe the lipstick off his mouth. “Goodbye, Mack.”

“Bye, Katy.” He waggles his brows, and as I turn around to head for the door, he gives my butt a gentle slap.

I swear, that man, he’s so much trouble.

Thing is, I’m beginning to think I’m made for trouble.

The auditorium is filling up by the second, and I’m basically running around like a lunatic trying to get all my ducks in a row for the Career Day presentations.

I’ve been here ever since I dropped my kids off at lunch around 11:30, and I still don’t feel like I have it all together. But since it’s now nearing 12:30, and soon, the event is supposed to start, I kick it into high gear.
