“My father’s preferred weapons,” he says. “Hard to miss, but draws a lot of attention. He’s dramatic, I tell you that.”

“No drama, no attention,” I growl.

He picks up a silencer and hands it to me. “This more your thing?”

I grab one of the smoke bombs from the bottom of the box. “No. This.”

“Ahh … the stealthy type?” he muses.

“No,” I say, and I grab some more of the pipe bombs he made. “I just like the element of surprise.”

A taunting smile erupts on his face. “All right. I like the sound of that.” He grabs a few guns, lots of ammo, and a couple of knives and tucks it all under his belt. “You ready beasty-boy?”

I grab as many weapons as I can before I close the trunk. “Don’t call me that.”

“You must be fun at parties,” he says, as we both head in the direction of the mansion.

“What are parties?” I reply with the most stone-cold, dead-ass voice I can muster.

He stares at me from the corner of his eye while we approach the fence at the back of the house. “You really have been missing out.”

I glance at him. “Why do you think I broke out?”

He grins. “Party-hard, fucker.”

We both jump up and hop over the fence. Some alarms go off, but Luca snuffs them out with a quick bullet. Then we run to the back door, the one that leads into the kitchen, or so I’ve been told.

He made a whole fucking map of the house and included an attack plan, but if shit starts to fly, I’m throwing it out the window without a second thought.

The only thing that matters to me is saving her.

And if he dies while I’m in there trying to get my woman, it’s his own fucking problem, not mine.

“Ready?” Luca asks.

I nod and chuck in a smoke bomb.

He knocks down the door with his foot when it explodes, and I go in first.

The room is filled with smoke, but I know how to make my way around the dark. With my gun held in front of me, I aim at anything that moves.

BANG!

One down.

Several of Lex’s staff members flee the room, screaming in terror, but I gun them all down one by one. I do not care if they were guards or cooks. They worked for him, which means they hurt my woman and me.

BANG! BANG!

More go down like flies, but then gunshots finally erupt.

Luca is right behind me, shooting at the guards to my left while I focus on the way forward. I’ve imprinted the map he created onto my retina, going on pure instinct and memory as I walk.

“Code red, code red!” a guard yells into a walkie-talkie up ahead.

BANG!

I shoot him right in the head, and he collapses against the kitchen door, blood pouring from his wound.

Suddenly, there’s a shriek. A familiar one. And it alerts all of my senses.

“Aurora,” I mutter.

Every inch of self-control flies out the window as I storm toward the sound.

“Beast!” Luca calls behind me as he guns down anyone who approaches us from the left and the right. “Stick to the plan!”

“Fuck the plan, she’s in danger!” I growl back, shooting back at someone gunning at us from the stairs.

When I’m out of ammo, I quickly shift to knives and chuck them at the men flocking around us from all sides. Some charge at me, and I slice through them like butter, cutting into their abdomens and gutting them in half with ease.

“You’re gonna get us killed,” Luca yells, trying to follow me.

“BEAST!” Aurora’s voice calls me like a siren, drawing my attention upstairs.

She’s in his room. Fuck.

The mere thought of that fucker putting his fingers on her gets me possessed by the devil. Roaring out loud, I knife down anyone who dares to get in my way, stabbing guards in the neck and eyes until they squeal like the pigs they are.

I only turn my gaze to see where my backup is at.

“Go!” Luca growls at me, incensed that I’d ruin our plan of attack.

But there’s too much at stake to take the controlled route.

Chaos is how I thrive.

As Luca offers me cover, I bolt toward the stairs, plucking the knives out of every single one of my victims.

There’s another squeal upstairs, the sound going through marrow and bone.

And I roar out loud so everyone can hear, “No one touches my Aurora!”

Aurora

Present

He’s here.

“What the fuck was that?” Lex growls from the room beyond.

But it feels like my body is firing up for something much more important than whatever destruction is happening downstairs. Beast’s voice is all I need to inspire me.

I grab the towel hanging on the rack, tie it around my hand, and smash the mirror in front of me to bits. I grasp a thick shard and hold it tight. Two breaths in and out, and I storm toward the bedroom in a brazen effort to overpower my captors.
