“Here we go,” I mumbled under my breath as I slowly made my way down the stairs and into the living room.

My breath hitched when I saw Wyatt in his tux.

Holy shit.

He looked handsome as hell. My breathing instantly picked up, and I didn’t see anyone else in the room but him. His dark hair and always sun-kissed skin looked amazing against the black tux. The touch of red in his bow tie was perfect.

When he turned to look at me, his smile faded, and his eyes grew bigger as they gazed over my body. He swallowed hard and looked back up into my eyes.

“Oh no,” my father said.

The room erupted in laughter. Apparently, Michelle’s father had said the same thing when she walked down from her room.

My father turned and said something to Wyatt, causing him to turn as white as a ghost.

If Dad scares him into not touching me, I swear to God…I’m going to hide his fishing poles for the rest of the summer.

Wyatt quickly recovered and walked up to me. Leaning over, he gently kissed me on the cheek. “You look stunning, absolutely beautiful.”

“I couldn’t agree more,” Wyatt’s mother, Alice, said. “Darling, you look beautiful.”

Wyatt’s father turned to my father. “I’m so glad I didn’t have a girl.”

Rolling his eyes, my father moaned. “Thanks, Joel. Thanks a lot.”

Everyone chuckled.

I couldn’t help but notice that Wyatt hadn’t taken his eyes off of me. My body trembled under his intense stare.

When we all headed outside, Wyatt leaned over and whispered in my ear, “I cannot wait to peel that dress off of you.”

My mouth parted open, and I was temporarily stupefied.

Michelle walked up to me and hugged me. “You look breathtaking, Sky.”

I took in Michelle’s stunning white dress. With the sweetheart neckline, I was sure my brother had forgotten his own name when he saw her. Her blonde hair was pulled up into a bun, and she looked gorgeous. We had both gone and gotten our hair and makeup done together, but our moms had wanted us to each be home to get dressed.

After we spent what seemed like forever taking pictures, we finally got ready to head out. I glanced over at my dad, who was giving Wyatt a dirty look, and then I turned to say good-bye to my mom and Wyatt’s parents.

When Wyatt got in his truck, he blew out a breath. “Jesus, that was stressful.”

“What was?” I asked with a giggle.

He looked at me like I had grown two heads. “Your dad told me that if I looked at you one more time like I wanted to devour you, he would cut off my dick.”

I gasped and covered my mouth. “He didn’t?”

“He did!”

Pressing my lips together, I decided to add to Wyatt’s stress. “Gesh, if he only knew the dirty thoughts I was thinking when I saw you in that tux.”

Wyatt’s mouth fell open. “I’m never going to make it tonight. Never.”

CHAPTER TWENTY-FOUR

* * *

Wyatt

I FOUGHT TO keep my eyes off of Skylar as I drove to the prom. I knew Mitch was in the same boat as me. With the way his mouth had dropped to the floor when Michelle walked in, it had taken everything out of me not to start laughing at him. Then, Skylar had walked into the living room, and I’d reacted the same damn way.

Pulling up to the valet, I jumped out and ran around to help Skylar out. After getting my ticket, I extended my arm out to Skylar, and we headed into the venue.

I could tell she was nervous.

“What if people stare?” she asked.

I chuckled. “They will stare because you’re the most beautiful woman here.”

Rolling her eyes, Skylar whispered, “Stop it.”

As we walked in, Avril Lavigne’s “Here’s to Never Growing Up” was playing.

I was right. People were staring.

Skylar stopped walking. “I can’t do this. This was a mistake.” She turned to me. “They’re talking about me. Can we leave, please?”

I pulled her to me and then motioned to the DJ. He nodded his head.

“You need to dance to at least one song at your prom, angel. Maybe two.”

Placing my hand on the small of her back, I guided her to the dance floor. I could see she was in her run-for-my-life mode.

Christina Aguilera’s “Beautiful” started playing as I held her tight up against me.

She looked up and smiled. “How did you know?”

Running the back of my hand down her stunning face, I replied, “You told me this was your favorite song the first time we ran into each other at the lake. You had fallen asleep while listening to it.”

Tears filled her eyes as she slowly shook her head and smiled up at me. “You’ll never know how happy you’ve made me, Wyatt. You make me feel…cherished. With you holding me in your arms, I feel like I can do anything. I feel…beautiful.”
