They exchange a few words, and the next thing I register is the door shutting. The second it clicks he lifts me, bringing us halfway out of the water and onto the floor, still thrusting, grunting, and of course, still coming.

“Fuck yes!” He says lowly, his hips pumping. “Take it! Take it all!” I feel myself contracting around his jutting dick, because shit, do I want every last drop.

My eyes are completely glazed over by the time we finish, and I feel the jarring emptiness as he pulls out.

“Get up,” he whispers. “She’ll be back any second.”

I sit up, and he tosses me my bottoms.

Chapter 22

-Josh-

Since returning from break school has been calm. Early May is upon as, bringing warmer weather, and I take off the second Wednesday of the month to drive Luci back to Boston.

“It feels like my student teaching flew!” She smiles, her bare feet resting on the dashboard, her flip-flops thrown on the floor.

“It does,” I reach out, grabbing her hand while stealing a glance.

“Stop looking at me while you drive!” She laughs. “Focus on the road!”

“I can’t help it,” I smile at the boring highway. “You’re much prettier.”

“This week is going to suck!” She groans, and I squeeze her hand.

“I know,” I sigh. “But, I’ll be back next Thursday for graduation,” I shake our hands, trying to her excited, “and then you’ll be home all summer. Everything is already figured out for fall. It’s perfect.”

“It is,” she sighs. “Soooo what’s on your agenda for said summer?”

“You.”

Her giggle drives me wild, and I pull her hand towards me, kissing her palm before resting it on my lap. “We haven’t talked about Deb’s wedding.”

“Yes, the fake real one,” she snickers.

“You’re coming right?” I sneak another peek.

“Are you asking?” She winks, before signaling with her hand for me to face forward.

“I’m begging,” I roll my eyes. “It’s two weeks before Gracie’s graduation. June 11.”

“I know when it is,” she rolls her eyes. “But…I’ll see your parents again.”

“Yes.”

“Won’t that be strange? Your Mom didn’t like me before, and now that she knows about us… Maybe I should I be, like, your friend?”

“But you’re my girlfriend.”

“But maybe she’ll like me more if she thinks we’re friends. I feel like I have no chance in hell with being your girlfriend.”

I laugh at her twisted way of thinking.

“I mean,” she continues. “Girlfriend is like this big title, and -”

“And there’s no one else I’d want for the job.”

She chuckles softly, and if I look over, I’m sure she’d be blushing.

“Focus on the positive,” I sigh. “We’ll stay overnight… another hotel room…” My mind is already spinning at all the new places and surfaces I can fuck her on. When she doesn’t answer, I finally look over. “What’s wrong?”

“Nothing,” she shakes her head. “I sort of just not started feeling well out or nowhere.”

“I told you we shouldn’t have stopped for that fast food.”

She grabs her stomach, giving me a dirty look. “Just get off at the next rest stop.”

It takes us especially long to get to Boston, and Luci seems to be feeling better by the time we arrive. The sun is already setting as I carry her suitcase to her old dorm, and as soon as we step inside her and Ren hug excitedly. I’m caught off guard when Ren offers me a hug too.

“Thank you so much for letting me stay here for the week. I hope your suitemate won’t mind.”

“She’s barely here,” Ren brushes it off. “And don’t thank me. My blowup mattress isn’t very comfortable.”

“Can I offer you ladies some dinner before I drive back?” I interrupt. “My treat. Your choice?”

Ren seems interested, but when I look over at Luci, I can tell she’s not.

“Still not feeling well?” I rub her shoulders.

“No I’m feeling better,” she hesitates. “I’m just not hungry, and you have a long drive back.”

“Eager to get rid of me?” I tease, and she leans in, smiling sadly. I feel bad for leaving her, knowing she’s not feeling great, but we say our goodbyes, and soon, I’m on my way back to New York.

As soon as I get home, I rush into my apartment and begin tearing it apart, searching.

I remember the day like it was only yesterday. It was fall, after all the stuff happened with Luci. I was angry, yearning, and lonely, and there was this ring, shining in an otherwise dank window display. I passed by the antique store four times before finally going inside.

The man went on and on about how it’s from the early 1900s, and it’s history, but I didn’t care about the details. I was far too taken with the design. The front, shaped like an outline of a small ship, had diamonds as its sails, a large one in the middle with two on smaller ones on either side. It reminded me of Luci’s favorite tale, Tristan and Isolde, and it made me smile. Up until then, I couldn’t remember the last time I smiled.
