As Roman and Levi clear a path, I take a step toward them and Surgei’s hand flinches at Sebastian’s throat, a bead of blood slowly trailing down to his collarbone.

Surely he can hear the screams outside starting to slow as his numbers quickly dwindle, leaving them with nothing but themselves against my whole fucking army.

“Don’t take another fucking step,” Surgei growls, using a tone that I might have once found intimidating, but not anymore. “You were a fool to come here, Shayne Moretti. You walked straight into my trap. All I had to do was lay the pieces, and now the DeAngelis empire will fall.”

I laugh, and it’s clear that’s not the reaction Surgei was expecting. His eye twitches, and I watch the most subtle clench of his jaw, his only tell that things aren’t quite playing out as he planned. Hell, I doubt he even expected us to get this far.

Down goes another two guards. Oops, make that three.

I take another step as Dill and Doe discreetly mirror my movements on the outskirts of the room.

Sebastian’s gaze remains on mine, and if this were any other situation and his life wasn’t currently being held at ransom, he’d be watching his father, taking in his every movement and learning from the best because God knows Roman moves like a fucking dancer when he’s in battle—a goddamn warrior. He’s untouchable, and it’s the most erotic thing I’ve ever seen. Sebastian idolizes him, and there’s absolutely no question as to why.

Only now, he doesn’t dare break his stare, waiting for his signal to make a move, just as we’ve always practiced. Ever since he got here, he’s always been capable of getting out of Surgei’s hold, but he’s a smart boy, and he knew that making a move too soon would have gotten him hurt and put straight back into the hands of another enemy. He knew to wait until we were here, and he knew without a doubt that we were coming for him.

My gaze flickers between Surgei and his nephews, studiously working out exactly how this is going to play out, and despite the scowls on their faces, it becomes ridiculously clear that his nephews don’t possess the ability to rule over a mafia family. They’re nothing but hired muscle who just happen to share the same DNA as their uncle.

They don’t possess the ability to be an issue here.

My gaze settles back onto my son’s, taking in those obsidian eyes, the perfect clone of his father, and in an instant, undeniable pride races through my veins, overwhelming my system. With that, I give the slightest nod, a movement almost invisible to the untrained eye, and my son instantly springs into action.

His elbow rams back into Surgei’s groin hard enough to ensure the fucker could never get hard again, and in his split second of shock, Sebastian grips Surgei’s wrist and tears the blade away from his throat before spinning out of his grasp.

Surgei doubles over in agony, but my son is only just getting started when he slams Surgei’s wrist back and up, plunging the blade deep into his gut with a devastating blow. Sebastian moves so fast that the Dragoni nephews barely have a chance to respond before Sebastian is already racing back toward me.

Sebastian keeps himself low as he bounds back to the safety of his family, and I don’t miss the way Roman and Marcus adjust their stances to keep themselves between the guards and Sebastian.

The nephews roar their outrage and turn on us, pulling their weapons from every sheath on their bodies, but I’m still focused on Surgei. And with the slightest flick of my wrist, I let the hounds loose.

Dill and Doe charge, the power in their strides eating up the space between them and Surgei within the blink of an eye, and I watch with pure satisfaction as Dill goes for the throat, his razor-sharp teeth sinking deep into Surgei’s neck and tearing it out with one simple flick of his massive head.

Doe goes for the gut and tears Surgei apart like a fucking ragdoll as his piercing screams drown out the other noises in the room, my son clutching onto my thigh. Roman and Levi quickly take out the final guard and are on the nephews before they can even cross the room.

Dill and Doe return to us, needing to check on Sebastian as the sirens get louder and louder.

Marcus steps into me and presses our sweet, screaming baby into my arms. “Go. Get Sebastian and the wolves out of here. Then gather our men. We’ll deal with these assholes,” he tells me, a wicked hunger flashing in his eyes as he peers over my shoulder at Roman and Levi as they face off against the assholes who stormed my son’s school.

“You sure?”
