I watch in horror as the Dragoni nephews steal what’s left of our product and look directly into the cameras, a sick smirk on their lips as if daring us to make a move—challenging us. And with that, they race back through the doors and into their SUV.

My blood boils.

This is no longer testing the waters, this is no longer trying to expand their reach and make a name for themselves. This is a direct attack against both the DeAngelis and Moretti family, and we won’t fucking stand for it.

The Dragoni family is relatively new in the mafia world. They’re still young, still trying to find their place, and while I usually enjoy a little bit of healthy competition, this has done nothing but piss me off. In the five short years I’ve been doing this, I’ve seen it time and time again. New families popping up and trying to make a name for themselves, thinking they even stand a chance against us. But when they move too fast, try to grow too soon, they make mistakes. They make enemies out of those they should fear. And we are the ones they should fear the most.

The DeAngelis and Moretti families are not known for their forgiving nature. We are strong, at the top of our game, and we are relentless. Nobody dares stand against us and gets away with their lives. There’s a reason we stand at the top and have held our position here for so long. We are undefeatable, impenetrable; it’s a lesson which has been widely taught time and time again.

And unfortunately for Surgei Dragoni and his family, he’s about to be taught exactly what it means to fuck with what’s mine.

Anger boils beneath the surface, and as Roman and Marcus drill Mick for more information, my hand slips into my purse, pulling out my phone. I turn and walk back to the door, and just as I push against it, it opens from the other side.

Levi appears before me, those dangerous, deadly eyes gazing over my face. “How bad is it?” he asks, that deep tone rumbling right through me.

“They killed our dealers and stole our product,” I tell him, “and something tells me, this is only the beginning. We need to put a stop to this before it turns into a turf war.”

Levi lifts his hand, gently brushing it down the side of my face, his touch like the sweetest caress. “Hate to break it to you, Little One,” he drawls. “But it was a turf war the second they set their sights on what’s ours. The second they declared they wanted to push into our territory, they declared war.”

“They won’t get away with this,” I promise him.

“No,” he agrees, leaning in and dropping a soft kiss over my lips. “They won’t.”

He pulls back just an inch, holding my stare and knowing all too well how this is going to go down. The Dragoni family isn’t just going to back away. They’re not going to be overwhelmed by our force and lay their weapons down. No, this is going to end with bloodshed, and despite having faith in my boys to get the job done, I can’t help but fear the unknown. I’ve almost lost them before, and the idea of losing them like that again shakes me right to my core.

We might be the most feared mafia family in the country, maybe even across the globe, but that doesn’t mean that we don’t suffer losses of our own, and when we do, it hits me like a bullet right to the chest. The men and women that make up both the DeAngelis and Moretti families are my people, my blood, and an attack against any of them is a direct attack against me.

“I don’t want this getting out of hand,” I tell him, sparing a glance toward Marcus, who would love nothing more than for it to get messy. He craves the kill, craves the bloodshed, and while Levi and Roman can be just as twisted and cold, Marcus takes it to a whole new level. There’s no other way to put it than to be brutally honest and call it what it is. Marcus DeAngelis is fucked in the head. And I wouldn’t have it any other way. God, his twisted kind of fuckery gets me off in the most deranged ways, and I love it.

“I can’t make any promises,” Levi tells me. “The Dragoni family are still young, and while generally that will work in our favor, it also means we don’t have the extensive type of information on them that we would have on a more . . . established family. We don’t know how big they are, what kind of training they have. If they’re cunning like Roman, or if they will go right for the kill like Marcus. We have to get a feel for them first to truly understand what we’re up against.”
