I officially adopted him and became his mom a few days before his first birthday, and I’ve never looked back. It was the best decision I’ve ever made, and being able to parent him with Roman has been so fulfilling. Roman is an incredible dad, and I think it’s more than safe to say that he learned a lot of lessons on what not to do from his own father.
God. His father was such a rotten cunt. Just the thought sends a chill sweeping down my spine. The day he was finally slaughtered is a day that’s highly celebrated in my home. Call me morbid or vile all you want, but I won’t apologize for it. The hell that man put us through was appalling, and now getting to watch my men rise from the ashes of his reign is the sweetest revenge I’ve ever had.
Following the sound of Sebastian’s contagious laughter, I move through to the kitchen, having to stop on my way to buzz in his new nanny as she waits at the front gate. I take a moment to scan over the live feed of the front gate, making sure there are no threats that want to take advantage of the open gates. Once I’m satisfied that we won’t have to spend another morning being shot at, I step away from the screen. But that’s the price we pay for the positions we hold.
Finding Sebastian in the living room, I shake my head as I take in the dagger clutched firmly in his little palm, his fingers barely able to close around the hilt as he lunges toward Levi, the sharp blade sinking into my good cushion that he holds firmly between his hands. “Take that,” Sebastian says proudly.
“No, no, no,” Marcus says from Sebastian’s side, down on his knees to meet his eyes. “You need to bend at the wrist and curve with the blade.”
My brows furrow, watching as Sebastian nods eagerly at his uncle before lunging toward Levi again and making the perfect arc with the dagger. “Yes,” Marcus cheers, holding his hand out toward Sebastian for an enthusiastic high five. “That’s it. Just like that. But this time, put more force into your lunge. You’re smaller, so you need to use that to your advantage, but that also means you’re gonna have to pack a lot of punch.”
Realization hits me like a wrecking ball, and I blanch at Marcus and Levi. “Are you teaching my son how to gut someone?”
Marcus’ head snaps up, his eyes brimming with pride as he takes me in. “He’s a natural,” he boasts.
Fuck me.
“Of course he is. He’s your brother’s son, and the blood that runs through your veins runs through his. It’s only natural for him to be a little twisted,” I say as Sebastian carelessly tosses the dagger over his shoulder and straight into Marcus’ waiting hands. He races toward me, flying up into my arms and clinging onto me as though he’ll never let me go.
“Did you see me, Mommy?” he says. “Uncle Marc says that when you do it just right, you can see their guts just fall to the floor. Isn’t that cool?”
I grin back at him, terrified of just how much money I’m going to have to drop on therapists over the coming years. “The coolest,” I say, flicking my gaze toward Marcus and letting him see the frustration deep in my stare.
I put Sebastian down as Levi and Marcus make their way toward me, and just as Sebastian finds his balance, Marcus leans over the top of him and drops a perfect kiss to my lips, not the least bit affected by my lethal glare. He drops his gaze back to Sebastian. “Just wait until you hear the sound of all the intestines hitting the floor. It’s like a string of slimy sausages.”
Sebastian’s eyes widen as he gapes at his uncle. “That’s so gross.”
“It’s messy too.”
Sebastian howls with laughter, and I roll my eyes before bending low and catching his attention. “Your nanny will be here in just a minute, and you’re still in your pajamas,” I say, quickly glancing at the time and realizing he’s going to be late for kindergarten if we don’t hurry. “Go get yourself dressed and ready. And don’t even think about forgetting to brush your teeth.”
Sebastian groans and steps out of my arms. “Fine,” he mutters, dragging his feet down the hallway, hopefully heading straight for his room.
I barely get a chance to straighten up before Levi’s hands are on my ass, hoisting me onto the edge of the kitchen island counter and stepping right into me, his warm lips coming down on mine in the sweetest good morning kiss I’ve ever received.
I moan into his mouth as my arms sling around his neck, holding him close. “Fuck, you taste good,” Levi murmurs against my lips.
